Strange Windows Problem
« on: Fri, 14 January 2011, 15:15:29 »
The new style "open" or "save" dialog box in Windows XP, the browse box, was displaying files by date modified order instead of by name order. The problem appeared to be caused by a program crashing in which I had date order selected in details view.

I didn't want to do a system restore to fix it, as I had downloaded and installed some fonts afterward.

Well, a Google search found a neat fix. Go into Windows Explorer, go into details view for any directory, select the name order, then go into list view.

Then hold down the Control key when you click on the X to close the window. It saves the order (I accidentally saved backwards name order first, and that was propagated) for use by the browse boxes as their default.

A cute, and extremely obscure, fix.

Interesting... I'm not quite understanding what your problem was, but interesting solution.  I have had an odd thing happen in Windows XP before where the tabs in the Display properties window wouldn't show up.  Still to this day don't know what caused that...

Your problem is that you're using Windows XP. Windows XP is a piece of crap. You should be using Windows 3.1. It's the best OS in the world because it fits on a floppy drive and I can install it on 8/10 computers that I find in a rubbish bin.
