So I just got my filco tenkeyless with cherry MX browns and they feel a little stiff. more than the blues on my black widow. I love the sound, but they just feel kinda harder to press, they also feel kind of gritty. Do they just need to be broken in or what?

I'm kinda nervous I'm not gonna like this keyboard as much. Which is a shame because I really like the size, shape, and quality (and I spent $180 on it)

you'll start liking them more once you change your avatar to browns!, but no it just seems like a break in period, from your previous post it'll be better, no loud clack ( i think that was you posting at least).

I dunno what to say...I used to own the same keyboard and I was also disappointed with it. I'm sure if you end up getting rid of it someone will want it :\

I'll give it a week or two and if I still don't like it, I'll try to see if anyone will trade me for a tenkeyless with blues.

First, congrats on getting a Cherry brown board non the less.

The grit like feeling of this switch is quite a common trait in two respects.

The first one being a small break in period. When I received my first "new" brown cherry board I noticed a slight grit/friction feel compared to the slightly more smooth feeling older brown cherry's. I actually liked the gritty feel, but a good amount of that went away after a couple of weeks of good use.

The second idea behind the grit like feel is that the tactile bump is subtle and since the switch is relatively light you notice that subtle friction more than you would a distinct bump. If you used a larger tactile stem (like the a clear cherry stem) and/or a heavier spring (black or grey) the tactile feedback seems more bump like and less grit like.

As a side note I also think blue cherry's feel at times lighter than brown cherries, especially in single distinct keypresses (less so when flying on the keys). I attribute this to the smoother nature of blues and the sharper tactile feed back. I would say on the average though I favor the browns.

Indeed definately give it a solid two weeks to be safe.

Yeah, I definitely noticed a rough or gritty feel when I first got my Filco, but it didn't last for long.

Same here, most of that little bit of friction wore off fairly soon.

hmm, just had a little bit of a deja vu.

years ago when i first had a filco browns I loved it and did not notice any of the grit like feeling at all, I switched to cherry blues shortly after.
now that I just picked up a new Cherry browns board very recently, and I definitely get that grit-like feeling just like you, maybe I should give it a week or two as well.

Same happened to me with the Noppoo Choc Mini with Browns. After a Week I definetely like it more, they are smoother than before and I hope this keep improving since I didn't use it too much time.
