G500 left click sticking
« on: Tue, 08 March 2011, 08:08:36 »
You know, you go to take a single shot and the gun goes full auto? Like that.
Has anyone else encountered this problem and is there a solution other than exchanging it?

You can replace the microswitch, or fix it. It uses Omron D2FC-F-7.
You can get them on Ebay.

Thank you for the advice, guys, but I'm not going to try to fix a brand new mouse. BTW, I'm on my third replacement g500 and it also is defective. I'm returning it tomorrow and I won't be replacing it with another g500. I'll either get a g700 ($20 more), a Naga (only $2 more) or a Xai ($20 more).

Those use the same omron microswitches.
At the end those are just as susceptible to this problem as your G500.

might be a difficult fix, from what i remember the g500 has dual circuit boards mounted one above the other via soldered pin connectors, as well as that the g500 has serious  accuracy issues if used for 64bit gaming.

unfortunatly i own one atm, its the ideal shape and button config but it wont ever be usefull for gaming while it uses the avago laser and setpoint.

Since I have till the 3rd of April to return the mouse, I decided to do some more experimenting with the settings. I've tried high in game sensitivity and low mouse dpi setting, but it still works best with high mouse dpi and low in game sensitivity. The setting that TOTALLY eliminates the left click problem is a 250 polling rate. I believe that means one report each 4 milliseconds. More news on the 'optimization' thread.

have you checked windows isnt overiding the mouse softwares polling rate?
i had an issue with that, i cant remember the fix but win7 was very sneaky about reverting to the defaults.
between setpoint and win7 it flicked back n forth depending on which bit of software was king of the wall.

Well, the reality is that if you use multiple profiles and opt for 'automatic application detection', the Control Panel 'mouse properties' will always have 'enhance pointer precision' ticked if your 'general' setting in Set Point employs the 'use OS native drivers etc.' option. If you disable 'automatic switching', and check 'mouse properties' from a setting that has the 'use OS etc.' unticked, you'll see that Windows doesn't overide the Set Point settings.

The other thing I've found is that Set Point has to be open for the auto detection.

The polling rate doesn't change in Set Point. It's dependent on the profile that's detected. How would you check, otherwise?
