Advice on Keyboard purchase
« on: Sun, 20 February 2011, 04:43:39 »
Hey guys I'm a total newb when it comes to keyboards. I am going to purchase a keyboard in the near future. I did a lot of research and it came down to this.

Keyboard that i want
-Non clicky, i actually love the deep thud noise more than the clicky keyboards
-a very clean feel to the fingers when key is pressed. non mushy a firm w/ a little bump so i know it is pressed.

Im thinking about purchasing the Realforce topre 103ub 55g or the stealseries 6gv2. I mostly play starcraft 2 and type a lot so if you guys have any better suggestions on any other keyboards i would appreciate. Thanks

Welcome to geekhack!

I wouldn't recommend black switches (Steelseries 6gv2) because they are linear, and don't have a bump to tell you when the switch has actuated. A Topre might be a good solution for you if you can afford them. Instead of MX blacks, I would recommend MX browns as the other option. They have a tactile bump (although very subtle) to tell you when the switch has actuated.

Not many, but MX brown isn't the only option here. Topre is certainly a solid option, but there's also MX clear.

A Filco, Ducky, Choc mini or Leopold with mx brown switches is a good bet.

For old keyboards, you may try to get a Compaq MX 11800 on ebay or GH classifieds.

With your resources, you have great amount of options so do not just jump to any suggestions but make comparisons to be sure you have chosen correctly/suitably.
If you can afford it and prefer a Mini format, wait a little longer to see the details/reviews on the 356 Mini, hopefully it will be produced soon. It is a high-end keyboard which you make it your own.

I had to wait 6-7 Months to get my suitable keyboard.......
