Need New Mouse - I'm Picky
« on: Thu, 03 March 2011, 20:56:59 »
I'm sure everyone has owned a MX518 sometime in their life, practically a right of passage in the gaming mice life line. I've used this mouse for as long as I can remember: SC, CS, Diablo, CS, Dota, CS, WoW, CS, SC2, CoD. And yes, by CS I mean Counter Strike. I've always had this cycle where I would go back to it then get sick of it and then have the sudden urge to play it again.

Anyways, the mouse finally died on me and now I am searching for a new mouse. So far, I've already tried 2 mouse from Razer and TBH, I'm done with Razer. Both of them broke within a month of use, had problems with the left click sticking, LED not working, rubber feets falling off...never again. So I decided to go back to Logitech and recently I bought the G500. Great mouse, similar design to the MX518, but my only gripe is the weight. I warned you, I am picky. Now the MX518 is ~110grams, G500 is ~160grams. Not to mention it is front heavy and trying to balance it by adding more weights just makes it heavier.

I've been looking around and I was thinking of getting the G9x, but I can't seem to find a reliable source on its weight. I've seen people say ~88grams w/o grip, and ~150grams with. I would like to know how much the G9x weighs with no weight tray/extra weights, just the mouse and 1 grip attached.

TLDR
How much the G9x weighs with no weight tray/extra weights, just the mouse and 1 grip attached?

If you guys have any other suggestions or experience with the G9x let me know.

If all else fails I can always buy another MX518.

I don't know where you got the number of 160 grams for G500, G500 weighs 115 grams, with the empty cartridge.

which is about the same as G9x

I found the 160g on a random forum so not exactly reliable, but only 115g that is interesting. Maybe because it's so front heavy it feels weird in my hand. I've already tried adding weights to balance it, but it just feels too heavy to game with. Might have to just buy another MX518.

I've heard good things about the Steelseries Xai. It weighs in at 98g.

I'd love for my Razer's LED to stop working, I don't feel like picking off the skates to get at the screws in order to disable it

If you're in windows you can usually disable the LED from their program thingy.
