a letter to cherry corp?
« on: Tue, 14 December 2010, 16:41:13 »
I wonder what would happen if cherry corp would receive a letter from customers asking them to increase the availability of their keyboards and switches?

It's not that hard to find the CEO, write to him (in German) with what we see in the market, and ask politely him to fire the marketing guy and to rethink what they are doing.

I can imagine we can get a couple of hundred 'signatures' here. May not be effective, but it'll sure be somewhat memorable. Maybe we could make noise and make the letter (in English) go viral.

In an ideal case, real keyboards may appear in a major chain near you.

What do you think?
keyboards: Cherry G80-3494- cherry reds | filco majestytouch - cherry browns | kinesis contour - cherry browns | cherry G80 - 1800 cherry blacks.
mice: filco touchpad | logitech G9x | wowpen joy | kensington orbit trackball | zalman fpsgun | intellimouse v1 | logitech rx1500

Cherry is a pretty stable company and unlikely to drastically change their distribution because of some guys on an online forum. Mechanical keyboards by now are just a tiny, tiny fraction of the stuff they produce and unlikely to be a big part of their income.

Klaus, their marketing guy seems pretty popular in Asia where they release all the cool stuff. However, this is Cherry HK doing all the work, then simply ordering from ZF Electronics in Germany. Even that did not last long and Cherry stopped the production of red switches and double shot keys, despite a pretty big popularity in Asia.

There is not much to do I think... and honestly also not much to gain from them anymore, their good quality mechanical keyboard days are over.

Next thing you know all cherry boards have lego dimples on them, and cherry discontinues everything but cherry blues, the price of their keyboards goes through the roof due to quadshot titanium alloy keycaps and their logo changes to geekgirl.

So your saying we should stock up now on cherry kb and maybe years down road sell as novelty collector item ... good idea.

Which do you recommend ?

Do they have a cherry keyboard that has the following

1. nkro via usb to ps2 adapter
2. cherry mx brown switches
3. doubleshots

In europe, they often use "," in place of ".". So 180,00 = 180.00.

Hope that helps.

Cherry MX reds have been resurrected it seems, can you revert the obsolescence about them?  (like in the Cherry switches and boards wiki?)

Honestly, I bought a G80 for two reasons:

1)  It was the cheap, well-made choice when the LSCRC was available at 65 USD

2) I figured Cherry would know their switches and make the most 'as intended' implementation.

However, their build quality is only at-par, their features are limited, and their availability is a mess.  Maybe they should give up on the keyboard manufacturing business and sell switches to firms whose hearts are in it.

More business for Cherry MX Reds, Kinesis ordered a batch to make the Advantage LF (low / linear force) contoured keyboard. I now feel like writing letters to Cherry and Kinesis and thank them! Woohoo!
