New Australian member picking his first mechanical

Hi guys =)

Just got a new job as a web developer and thought it would be nice to supplement my work with a new keyboard. Boss set me up with a computer and an ergonomic keyboard...that feels absolutely dreadful. A black microsoft ergonomic trashy thing. Went straight back to my laptop and its scissor switches.

Being based in Australia, it seems that my only two sources of keyboards are mechkeyboards.com and auspcmarket. This means the following are available to me

DAS
Filco
Topre (I don't think I type fast enough to justify the cost of these things)
Ducky
Zowie Celeritas

I'm fairly convinced that if I go with cherry switches, I should go with cherry browns as I'm in a space with a few other office workers and I'm all about typing comfort and speed. I'm a tiny statured asian bloke with a light touch also.

I'm eyeing a Ducky 9008 with black keycaps and cherry brown switches.

Do you think this is a good choice for a first keyboard from someone with a lifetime of rubber domes/scissor switches? Are there any other places I should look for keyboards besides these two stores?

Welcome to GH! I love my cherry browns, good first mech board. It's about the middle of all key switch feels, go for it.

Personally I'd go for the Filco as it's just about as solid a first board as you can get. It'd be about 160-180 AUD which, considering the UK price is 114 GBP, isn't _too_ bad. As a fellow Australian, I feel your pain re: shipping/consumer choice. Am currently in the UK where we get slammed in the currency conversion also!

Check the WW shopping Wiki.  StaticIce has Steelseries.

I'm not so hot on the Ducky but Filcos cost a LOT there.  How much is the Ducky?
staticice isn't a store, it's a search engine.

Your cheapest option would be the Razer blackwidow which is available from PCCG for $109 aud. Though they are blue switches.

Auspcmarket is the official distro for Majestouch in Oz so look there if you want a Filco. Alternatively you can try Armygroup located in Taiwan which ends up cheaper (including shipping).

Ducky - GlobalPCHOME is cheaper than mechkeyboards (including shipping).

Hoo ha, thanks for all the replies! Ah, I did look at both the Steelseries 6GV2 +7G and Razer Blackwidow when I began my quest but immediately forgot about them - the Steel use black switches and Razer is so incredibly uncool. (I design logos and Razer's makes my skin peel.)

The Majestouch tenkeyless costs $173.80AUD here. The Ducky is a mere $149.95AUD by comparison. (both including shipping) The ducky mercifully has no logo printed on it too - why do so many mech keyboards have horrible logos?! The Deck keyboard logo is awful too!

I had a look at the taiwanese stores...trying to look through them via google translate isn't much fun and I don't see much in a way of savings so I'll probably stick with the aussie distributors. Thanks for all the help thus far, hoo ha I am excited about getting my first board =D =D =D

Considering this is your first mechanical, I wouldn't write off black switches as you haven't (?) tried them... don't just listen to the stereotype about them being worse for typing or other such bollocks, everyone has a subjective, preferred switch! But, as you said you've got a lighter touch, I assume that was behind your reasoning.
