Mechanical tenkeyless with a vintage look?
« on: Tue, 19 April 2011, 09:45:43 »
I'm going to be doing a couple projects soon gutting vintage beige/brown computers (like an Osborn) and installing new internals.  I'd like the keyboard to match the style yet still be a modern keyboard if possible.

I know that Leopold announced a beige tenkeyless but I don't have a clue how to go about getting one.  And using a combination of brown/black or beige/brown keycaps should finish off the style I'm going for.

Beyond that, I've found the G84 4100 beige but I can't find any large pictures of it.

Any other options?

Hah, I've seen that one before.  And yeah, it's great.  I probably should have been more clear though.  The vintage I'm looking for is late 70s/early 80s beige/brown era.

Now that is vintage! :hat: The word always brings to mind typewriters and things of that sort, but around here it's just a nice ephamism for beige. :suspicious:

Of course that's not tenkeyless and it's a Mac key layout. Not a Spacesaver at all really. The keyboard is big.

There was another thread where a guy had a few of em for $70 + <$20 Shipping to ConUS and Canada IIRC. Can't find it now.

Isn't the Osborne "IBM Ivory"?

I tried the keyboard on one of those not long ago.  Truly sucky linears.

Get a Filco.

Nice thing about old white/ivory plastic is it always turns beige eventually.  :D

The Osborne is just one option though.  I'm considering several, including an old Commodore SX-64, which I'm thinking now might be a lot easier path assuming I can find it.

Hm, that looks grey/white to me.

I saw in the 104 KBC keycap thread someone had taken a black Filco and added a mix of gold-on-black and white keys and I thought it produced a very classic look.  Only wish the whites were a bit more beige.
