Arcade buttons for CST LtracX?
« on: Sat, 23 April 2011, 21:17:07 »
I've had my LtracX for about a month now, and just started modding it now that I know better what I want form it.  I've already got a thumb scroll, back and forward buttons and DPI indicating LED's, and a pool ball but what it really needs is a good mashable left click!  I really want an arcade button, but they are really tall, so does anyone know of another button that has that same low pressure, semi-loose, clacky feel?  One that would fit right about:

I'm going to disable the original button, so for those who have taken these things apart, don't worry about the plastic spring/guide tab thingy getting in the way.

I tried to get my camera to take a picture of it, but it only take really fuzzy pictures right now (I think there may be a sasquatch hiding around here somewhere.)  Anyways, I'll try to describe it, under the optical interrupter for the mouse wheel (the area marked U1) there is a square via and to it's left a round one.  Those are the A and B signal from the interrupter.  They should work with any grey code rotary encoder.

I think that I will have to use an MX switch, I've got a whole keyboard filled with blacks in my garage doing nothing because steel series under estimated the need to debounce mechanical switches.

The one I used was from the OEM radio to an old Buick, so no luck there.  Grayhill makes the best encoders though, I'll probably be switching it out for one of those in the future.  I've used them in the past and they are top notch, just expensive.

Not the prettiest of hacks, but it will work until I can make a cover for the old huge buttons, and mod the right click too.

I think this one sits up too high, so i'll have to lower it to make it positioned better, but it's much much faster to spam it now.

Where did you find the round key cap by the way?
