Normal use wireless mouse
« on: Sun, 01 May 2011, 19:10:07 »
It seems like wireless mice come in two forms: normal sized gaming mice with giant, most of the time, corded antennas (thereby defeating the point) that last for maybe a day on a charge. Aaaaaand super tiny nano mice. Where are the regular sized mice that last for a few months on a set of batteries?

Like the MX610, but preferably with a nano receiver. It's about G5 sized, for those who don't know.

Look at M705 marathon.

Not supertiny, not a monster.

Inertial wheel and middle click, nano reciver (unyfing).

Three years with two batteries, but can run with just one.

Almost perfect, lacks just on tracking on very dark cloth.

Actually, I saw that one in a store. Thought it was still too small. In pictures it looked okay, but in person it was all around smaller than I thought it was. The front part of it stops early compared to the other two that I mentioned as well.

What I'm trying to do is replace the one that I'm using now. Its a rosewill wireless mouse with a nano receiver, I got it (of course) from newegg, but its been taken down/discontinued. It's about the size of the marathon, maybe a little smaller. I'm trying to move up in terms of size of mouse.

If I must, it doesn't have to have a nano receiver, I'd just prefer one. I really didn't think it would be as hard as it seems to be to find what I'm looking for.

Really was the same thing I thought when I saw it for the first time (well when I saw the older brother VX revolution, which is slightly smaller).

At the time my intention was to buy the MX revolution, (I changed my mind because the lack of middle clik) but after a quick test drive with the VX it becom my first chiche for a couple of years.

The M705 is just better, and really is a pleasure to use, try it briefly on the field, if you can, I'm sure you will change your mind as I did.

I also tried the tiny MX nano, I found it really unusable. Too tiny, too flat, good for a 6 years old user. (indeed ripster like it a lot :becky:).

Indeed is very hard, seem that today a mouse must be giant or supermicro to attract any attention

Except the giant ones are all either wired (which is excellent for a gaming mouse on my gaming desktop). Also they have terrible battery life and/or a long corded receiver with a huge antenna at the end. That sort of receiver negates the fact that the mouse is wireless for where I have my laptop. So I can't use that.

Dang. I bought a low priced normal sized mouse I was hoping to put the internals of my small mouse into it. Making the big mouse newly wireless.

If I bought a precision soldering iron, I could get everything BUT the middle click onto the smaller mouse's circuit board. Because it literally uses the same omron microswitches for left and right click, and the side buttons. The actual scroll wheel itself uses the same structure, the new mouse makes it easy by having its wheel on actual wires that would be easier to put into place. But the middle click is this circular switch with 4 solder points. My wireless mouse uses another omron switch for that.

Is it....

Nevermind, I noticed I'd be able to line up the middle click omron switch with something that also moves on the new mouse's scroll wheel. Then I noticed that there is a plastic pillar that come up through the middle of the new mouse's circuit board and holds the scroll wheel in place. It falls on sort of an important spot on the old mouse's circuit board, which makes it impossible. So close.

Actually yes, I'm gluing some nickels into the inside of it just to add weight. Otherwise it'd have been closed by now.

You can see the plastic pillar I'm talking about too. Possibly part of the scroll wheel.

This is what I just bought from ebay for $28. I will then ignore the wireless keyboard from it. But that seems to be the best way to get a nice sized mouse.

The round switch you mention looks like a very normal NO switch.

The usually have two pair of terminals connected togheter so you can consider it as a two pin NO switch.

The omron with lever have (usually) three contacts, a common a NC contact and a NO one. Alomost always just the NO contact is used, so you can consider the two switches electrically identical for your purposes.

Okay. If that plastic pillar wasn't in the way that'd be super useful information. The wireless mouse's circuit board would be too "long" if placed "below" the pillar entirely. It would have to sit closer up. That might come in handy at some point though, so thanks, but this project is dead.

Also because I bought a wireless mouse/keyboard combo just for its mouse. It's a laser mouse, and quite a nice size. I know that already, because I have a similar model hooked up to my HTPC.

And yeah, all of the omron switches I could see had three contacts.
