But, I've noticed, most peeps (of late) outside our creed are not going the route.

What are your observations, are peeps touchtyping where y'all are ?

nah man - we really are dying breed - keyboard cowboys as you will ........ anywho as wpm can't go higher than 120 that's top avg ~80-90 but I know there are many people faster............. still doing pretty alright ...... you ?

So i was talking to someone at work about 3 months ago and they said they had a teen come through for training. Apparently the kid could barely use the computer. He also said that it is becoming more common for younger touchsceen gens to be less desktop savvy when he trains them.

Some of my friends are able to type at less than 65 WPM with that ol' hunt and peck method, and I feel weird being the one guy who's been touch typing since middle school. I'm consistently scoring 90-110 WPM in each typing speed test I take all through touch typing and not looking. Can even type with my eyes closed if I wanted to.

I still see people touch type as in they don't look at the keyboard..but a lot of people have their own style of typing...Touch typing with 2-3 fingers on each hand...Not sure how they do it but they do..

I don't see how people get any work done by not being able to type properly..the amount of time it takes to type an email or even just Teams/Slack if you type slowly...You just can't get enough done that way...

Oddly enough, kids seem like they can type on their phones and that speed is the speed they're used to...they do type pretty quick too..at least relative to what it takes me on a phone...

I've chatted with my younger nieces/nephews on the txt apps. If I'm on keeb, I destroy them on speed.

But on the fone, it's about the same. ~30wpm

I have this old dude at work that types with only his right index.

Most people here can't type at more than 40WPM, nor touche type.
Most people can't even do basic computing, they can only use the 3 Excel functions they were taught one day.
A solid half would use the mouse to Ctrl+C Ctrl+V. And it's their jobs to copy paste stuff.

My theory is that kids used to be faster typists when the main messaging platforms were those such as AOL instant messenger which had to be done with a computer.  Messaging hundreds of messages back and forth a day makes for great practice and it actually accomplishes something, unlike copying sentences verbatim in a typing class they may be required to take. Nowadays, they just use their phones to communicate, so no actual motivation to gain typing speed on a real keyboard. I suppose they might have to type some papers for school, but even then, they probably don't want to or have any personal interest in doing so.

Adding to that I know one person who learned to touch type rapidly from online gaming chat, kind of by necessity just to keep up the pace.

I am going the route tp4tissue. I am a touch typist! In fact, the urge for a more comfortable fast typing experience has brought me here.

I can go over 120 wpm, but that's rare.
I average 100 wpm when typing.

Nobody i know except my sister and my mom can touch type.
I see that people average 28-36 wpm, because they are non touch typists.

I am a full on touch typist and am on communities such as keyhero

I mean, it's pretty nice when people notice how fast you type and compliment on that. But chance are, that's not gonna have an affect on your pay raise negotiation. Just a useful soft skill.

And hell, maybe you guys haven't tried this in a while, but the other day I used voice-dictation on my iPad to "type" a long-ass email just by speaking normally as if I was standing in front of the recipient.

It worked *perfectly*. Not a single typo or grammar error.

Kinda nice.

I learnt to touch type in 4th or 5th grade, so it hasn't been an issue for me since I was under 10 years old.

I work at a software company, so everyone knows how to touch type. I've never seen anyone at work type slowly or in a non-standard way, except maybe one of the newer guys (born circa 1992, I think) who only uses his index and middle finger on his right hand. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say most of my coworkers are somewhere between 80-95 WPM.

For some reason, my wife types pretty slowly, and I've had to advise her to stay on the home row. I'm not sure why this is since she went to the same school as I did and was only one grade ahead of me, so she must have taken the typing classes. Come to think of it, I had to advise one of my friends who joined my school in 6th grade to use the home row also. I think he's an ok typist now though.

Most people do at my school. My works a hostess, so we don't really need computers there. Or, they pecktype. Gets on my nerves sometimes.
