Avant Stellar (white alps)

So my problem is as follows:

My 'f' key repeats a gazillion times at a certain pressure point at a certain angle. It is driving me insane when I type. (Can you say ffffffffffffffffffffuuuu? I sure can)

When this happened before I ended up taking apart the switch and cleaning the inside and that seemed to help for a while. It wasn't obvious what the cause was other than perhaps some dust that got onto the click leaf.

Now it has returned so I am considering doing what I did before.

My question is, what exactly could be the cause of this phenomenon and is there anything I should do special when I'm in there to help fix this problem?

You can try changing out the metal thing that is on the switch plate. If that doesn't work, then you'll have to desolder it and change it with another one (or try to mess with it some more in some other way).

you could also try to spray some contact spray like this one in it. Be sure to wait long enough until its completely dry again.

Swap the F switch for one you hardly ever use. I personally never press things like Scroll Lock, Sleep/Wake/Power, my right Alt key, F7, etc ... they're basically just spare parts for the rest of my keyboards.

If you have simplified Alps it's really easy to damage the copper-colored switching mechanism (which does the actual electrical contact). Do what Konrad says.
