So, my first post here on GH, been lurking for a couple months. I feel like it's bad form for the first post of any user to be in the marketplace, but here I am. Boo. Hiss. I blame Ripster for already having obsessively raised and/or answered any question I could think of regarding keyboards, and my ability to find that through a search.

Anyways, here's the deal: I'm looking to upgrade from a cheap Cherry POS to something a bit sturdier, and with a more standard layout. I would really prefer a 104 key, preferably a majestouch with browns, or maybe a realforce of some variety. But I'm looking to sell off older tech stuff I don't use anymore before I get anything new. So why not make everything easier and do a swap if anyone is interested?

For your consideration, a pair of Headphile modded Grado SR-225s, with custom cherry (wood, not switch!) cups, cabled with silver, reterminated to mini plug. Judging from past threads on head-fi.org, these go for about $250 USD.

Vendor's picture of what they look like, these are an older model, but still have a fantastic and current sound. An aggressive an fun, in your face headphone, which I highly recommend for people who enjoy rock or jazz.

Damn, those look sweet. I just bought a boring pair of 60s, if not I would help you fund a set of browns. GLWS. I'd offer to trade my 104, but that was a gift from the SO, so I'm tied to it.

edit - I just fell in love with Cherry Blues, so I'm getting rid of the Browns

Don't underestimate those little SR-60s. I actually still have mine, and have done some heavy modification. Though they're ugly as sin, they still sound beautiful. I wouldn't say they outclass my 225s by any means, but because they're so beat up now, I can walk around with them without any fear of scratching or otherwise damaging them. The more you know: all of the drivers in Grado headphones basically come to them from the same factory. All they do in shop is balance the drivers against one another, provide them with better housing, change the venting, etc. If you're industrious, it's easy to bring new sound out of any of your Grado headphones.

Thanks for the interest guys, I'm definitely going to be keeping an eye out. I like the sound of a majestouch 2, especially a Ninja.

Actually those look stupid to me ... why would you keep the ugly plastic grille AND button?

Why not vent the back of the driver a little more and increase the resonance chamber volume like Grado themselves did with the I versions?

You're right about the button, but the grill on that looks like the metal on the 225i's, so they most likely made that mod. The button itself is easy enough to pop off..

The grille is most definitely metal, and the button would be quite easy to pop off if you aren't afraid of a tiny bit of DIY. I'm just leaving it exactly as the headphile guy made it for collector's value currently.

I know this isn't a fair trade if $250 is what the phones are worth, but I'm not a big audiophile. I'm a tenkeyless guy... so I never really use this board. I would also throw in a Logitech G500 mouse. Oh, and a set of RGB modifiers and glow-in-the-dark caps from my group buy when they come in - if you're into that sort of thing.

No worries either way, and sorry if my offer is offensive. Or let me know how far off I am!

Not an offensive offer by any stretch of the imagination; it fits the criteria of what I'm looking for. I don't really care much for the caps on the das boards, but I guess that's only a minor concern, as I have an extra cherry board sitting around to harvest caps from. Besides the ISO enter I think almost everything should work...

In terms of value, your offer is probably about $100 off, but I could go considerably lower, just because I'm kind of tired of sitting on these headphones when I have like 6 other pairs lying around that I'm not afraid of scuffing. I'll wait a day or two to see what any other offers look like and get back to you. Also, thumbs up for the G500. I have a MX510 that's probably 7 years old and still not showing its age, but an extra just in case never hurts.

Sounds good! Let me know if you're ready. I was looking around the office a bit to see what else you might like that I'm not using. I'll throw in a Razer Lachesis too... it's been in the closet since I got it, never used. Also, perhaps a Blue USB Snowball. I thought it would be good for Skype, but you have to really get close for it to pick up very loudly. It's frustrating!

Anything else in particular you're looking for?

Let's see, other random stuff I'm looking for... a TB or more external hard drive, and 4GB of DDR2 ram. I've had experience with the Blue Snowballs in my last job, I wasn't impressed. You definitely need to get up too close for good volume.

That offer looks just fine from a value perspective, only I don't really care for the Razer mice designs. Just personal preference, and I don't especially need that many mice floating around.

Yeah, totally understand. I don't think I'd fully appreciate them like the new owner should. Plus, you probably would be much happier with a nice Filco. Nothing wrong with das... they're solid. But that shine will drive you crazy, and the laser lettering get dirty way to fast.

Just thought I'd speak up and vouch for the soundness of this trade. Those headphones are a beauty. If you're new to Grado or already have SR60's, the 225's are a big step up. Go for it, you won't regret it.

I'm also desperate for a Topre board, but not enough to sell my gold 325i's. Those cans will be on my ears when they bury me, mark my words.
