Healing ...

Hi,

I would be interested in explanations to the following interesting positive effect.

I have a Belkin PS2=>USB adapter, which works fine with a 1997er IBM model M (Made by IBM).
Combining this adapter with a 1988er IBM model M (also made by IBM) results in a hanging keyboard
in most cases (all LEDs blinking, no response of the keyboard other than the usual cliks) after cold boots of
the PC and after boots after hibernation. Entering the BIOS was also impossible.
Powercycling the board by reinserting the USB connector of the adapter into the PC ends the
guru meditation of the board and all works fine despite the fact, that ths coul not be a solution.
I did not noticed a hang up while using the board after power cycling though.

Now I added the USB hub of my LCD monitor into the chain this way:
PC---->Monitor(HUB in)...(HUB out)----->Belkin adapter---->IBM model M (1988er).

After some boots I must say: it works! I can even enter the BIOS again.
(By the way: Legacy support was switch on in the BIOS all the time).

The question remains: How does it work?
Is the keyboard processor to slow, so giving it power via the hub right
after switching on the rig will give it time to enter the here and now?

Thank you very much for any idea to clearify this mysterium ! :)))

Best regards
mcc

For the record, boots after hibernation are still cold boots. Windows (or whatever) would just **** with the boot process and instruct the RAM to load up in its entirety from a file on the hard drive instead of following the normal procedure.

I would suspect that your PC cannot supply as much power as the powered hub in the monitor.

Which device in the chain is actually "in the wrong" and out of spec is another discussion.

Are you using ports on the front or rear of the PC?  I cannot use certain devices on the front ports of my PC because the power drop across the internal extension wires is too much.
