That video makes it look like that guy is awfully fond of that scrollwheel.

Perhaps the scroll wheel is squealing with pleasure?

I found another possible screw hole location, under the battery just below the "1.5v" label on the curved part.

good catch - that one was puzzling me.

I went ahead and opened mine up, doing my best to put some white lithium grease on the axis of the scroll wheel and also the inside lip of the scroll wheel where the springy pin makes contact.  Sorry its hard to describe, but you'll get it once you open it up.

Results are good for now.  Iv'e only put in about 10 min of use, but it already feels much smoother.  The dry/scratchy feeling and sound is gone now.  It feels like my other logitech mice to me now.  i just hope the grease keeps up - i may need to apply something heavier if the sound comes back.

Is there a chance we can take a glimpse inside, too?  Did you see
an AVR µC in there?  I was surpised to find an ATmega324P
in my mx1100 instead of some more obscure part.  They also used a
wireless chip with publically available documentation: nRF24L01.

As an update, after a couple weeks of use with no modifications done, the wheel has broken in quite well.  The squeak disappeared and the wheel movement has smoothed out as well.

The click is still quite stiff but I can live with that.

I will also confirm that which n3rrd has said.  I have had my M570 for a month or two now.  When I first used it, it was quite.  After about two days, it was decided to squeek.  I never bothered with it.  Now after a few months, the scroll wheel has no squeek.  Initially the scroll wheel may have felt a little bit gritty as well.  That is also gone, and the wheel is much smoother now.

With all that said, I really like this trackball.  I originally thought I wanted the finger ball, but I find that the thumb ball is ideal.  The buttons and scroll wheel feel right where they belong, especially coming from a mouse previously.  Click dragging is a breeze.  Clicking without moving is also no problem.  I also love the fact that the trackball is wireless.  I use a keyboard tray that slides in and out.  I appreciate not having an extra cord to worry about hanging up.  I also do not need to worry about routing the cord either.  I wish that my RK-9000 came wireless as well.

My only complaint with the ball is that I am very sensitive to any friction.  I find that I do need to clean the ball and rollers somewhat frequently.  I am not sure if the stainless rollers would be better or not in that respect.  Cleaning the ball and rollers (little tiny balls) is very easy though, and I will do that before going back to a mouse.

i guess i didnt wait long enough for my squeaking to go way by itself.  i recommend lubing it with some white lithium grease like i did if you're impatient.

I have been using trackballs since I got my first computer. I have owned a Logitech Cordless TrackMan Wheel, Microsoft Trackball Optical and Microsoft Trackball Explorer. When my Explorer finally gave out in December it was time to find a new one. Sadly, since MS doesn't make trackballs anymore, I had to look elsewhere. While I didn't hate my Logitech, it was my least favorite by far. Just not very comfortable for my hand. But after going to the Logitech site I noticed a new one, the M570 and decided to give it a try. I would have preferred a corded version since there is no need to move a trackball but the battery life seems amazing, so it's OK. My one real complain is the scroll wheel. I really hope they fix that in the next version.

yeah, even without the squeak, the scroll wheel has a really flimsy feel IMO...not nearly as nice as the logitech mice that i have (g5 and MX revolution)

After using this for just over 2 months now, about 4-5hrs per day the squeak is gone.  Actually, I think the squeak went away sooner, but I just never noticed it until now.

The rate of crud accumulation on the rollers is about the same as my old corded Logitech Trackman Wheel.  I think it depends on your skin as that "crud" is supposed to be dead skin cells and maybe dust I believe.

After using it for 2 months on a daily basis, I think it is a nice step up from the old Trackman Wheel.  I didn't need the wireless bit, but the dpi bump is definitely nice.

So, just over 3 months now and the left click button on mine is starting to stick and it takes anywhere from 2-10 seconds to unstick itself.  I'm tempted to take it apart and lube the left click button/switch myself rather than dealing with the RMA.  Has anyone here dealt with a Logitech RMA before?  Do you pay for shipping it to them or do they pay for it?  The cheapest Canada Post shipping is going to be almost half the cost of this trackball.

I wish the M570 had a tilt wheel.  But...I've always felt that there should be a good BT TrackMan from Logitech, and they've never done that.  (still FAIL!)  They just packaged their Trackman with a clunky USB receiver that I feel like I have to hide somewhere under my desk, and keeps me from carrying it with my laptop.

This new receiver that looks like a stub you insert into the USB port could easily make the M570 my new mobile pointer of choice, and have me doing serious work in my easy chair instead of at my desk.  :-D

Looks like you could program the buttons to replace the tilt wheel if you have to have that.  I may have to get me one o' these!

Not judging you or saying ANYTHING about you, but with my Trackman wheel, I can use it for a week straight with no crud.  ANY of my kids use it for 5 minutes and I have to clean it before I can stand to use it.  Nasty.

Using a new M570 for the first time.  I can't believe the difference it makes for me on my laptop.  I'm never going back to the mouse I've been carrying (which is by all means, a very nice and very portable BT mouse: Logitech V470).

I'm very impressed with the M570.

Bad part:  But...still needs a tilt wheel, how do you leave that out, huh?  It's not bluetooth (but it's almost as good as long as you have a USB port to burn for it)

Good parts: It STICKS to the desk like a Filco keyboard.  It's nice to have an update of the Trackman Marbles that I've loved for years.  And...it came with a Duracell AA battery ready already inside.  Classy.

I've been using the M570 since October without any issues. No squeaking noises or sticking buttons, or flimsy feel, imo. The unified receiver is nice if you ever consider a wireless keyboard that can use the same receiver. It is a step up from the old trackman wheel.

So I finally decided to get myself an M570.  I've been using this style of trackball from Logitech since the original came out.  I have 6 Trackman Wheels, and 1 of the wireless version (the dongle sucks),

The middle button is so stiff, but other than that the feel is very nice.  No squeaking on the wheel.  Also my usual 'stiffness' breakin on the ball worked.  I just pull the ball out and rub the bearing points with my finger tip and then thoroughly clean off the ball on my t-shirt.  Slick as hair-grease after that ;)

Interestingly the wireless reacts to my activation and deactivation of bluetooth on my cell and headset.  This is with the cell located within 5 inches of the receiver dongle.  It completely disrupts the trackball connection and the unity receiver resets and resyncs.

Wondering what to do with the 2 extra buttons I now have.  I've been using the further one as middle click because of the stiffness of the real middle.  The other is currently cruise down.  Cruise is cute, but then wtf is the mouse wheel for?

I prefer wired myself, but the dpi is just too low on the older trackman wheel.

There's a whole lot I'd rather (including the wire) but they haven't made it yet and this is still a nice upgrade.

I've been successfully ignoring the extra two buttons, that's what I do with them.  =-D

So... published DPI on the M570 and proof that one way or the other Logitech is lying about the M570.

400dpi, not adjustable in any way... intriguing since this touts the awesomeness of their 'adjustable laser sensor' (just click on the features tab and scroll down).

Grrrrrrr!  Makes me want to buy a G500 and tear it's guts out.
