can't find a decent bluetooth keyboard for ipad
« on: Mon, 26 September 2011, 17:00:39 »
i went to the apple store to check out their bluetooth keyboard. the upward tilt was a deal breaker. i like my keyboards flat or with negative tilt. based on website pictures it *seems* like the microsoft 6000 and logitech slim bluetooth keyboards also have the upward tilt. i need a keyboard to type lecture notes during class. features i'd like, in order of importance (i know i can't have it all):

ability to connect to ipad 2 (bluetooth?)
no upward tilt; has to be flat or negative tilt
full size keys;
not too loud in a small classroom
tactile feel like my cherry browns which i use for the desktop

any help? i've heard about a filco bluetooth but never seen it. i prefer to avoid trying to use the ipad camera adapter as a usb adapter. not reliable plus it'd be annoying to connect and disconnect so often. bluetooth is convenient.

Acconding to their website, the Kinesis has a good tilt, however it will be difficult to make it bluetooth.

This combined case/keyboard doesn't seem to have any tilt:

However, I think it would be easier for you to wedge something underneath the close side of the Apple Keyboard, like some beanbags or something.

Tilt is the easiest problem to solve of your requirements. Making a wired keyboard into bluetooth or making a non-mechanical keyboard into a mechanical one are much harder problems and probably aren't worth the effort.

Other than the Logitech, probably one of the only bluetooth keyboards for the ipad 2 where the keys aren't soft rubber and actually feel like keycaps. They had a sale on them if you used the coupon code FB50 for $50, but it looks like they are out of stock right now. Retail = $99, but it brought down the price to $50.

thanks for the feedback. this thread has confirmed for me that there are no decent bluetooth keyboards here in the usa.

i like to use my tablet as a tablet 98% of the time. i'm making an exception to take notes in class. it is annoying to put in and take out the tablet from the belkin and logitech keyboard cases. those keyboard cases defeat the point of a tablet. the apple keyboard...i tried it again...the key switches don't work for me. i type much slower with those switches plus the switches themselves are uncomfortable.

i ordered the microsoft 6000 bluetooth for $32 amazon prime. before opening the box i'll try it in stores to see if the switch is acceptable. i'm trying to turn this set up into a "modern" portable typewriter.
