WASD O-Ring Key Dampeners [Pack of 125]
« on: Wed, 19 October 2011, 15:37:17 »
For those of you not familiar with what these are, they can be used to mod any Cherry MX keycap so the bottoming out sound is removed and only the click is left on blue switches and as close to silence as possible with browns.

The original product page site where I bought them is here:
http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/products/keyboard-accessories-2/cherry-mx-rubber-switch-dampeners.html

They are in excellent condition as they were basically never used.

Asking for US$10 [shipping from Canada to anywhere in the world via regular mail in a bubble-wrap mailer is included in that price]
I think thats a pretty decent price considering they havent been used.
Local pickup is OK [Toronto Downtown or East York after business hours and on the weekends]

I will send a small wooden rod with them that is pretty much exactly the same diameter as that of a Cherry MX keycap stem.
You can use this rod to create a coil from an ordinary paper clip that can be used as a tool to push in the o-ring once you have it on a stem.
I will also include the paper clip tool I made for myself using the same wooden rod.

Send me a PM if interested or you want to inquire further.
I have feedback in the classifieds section from a previous local kbd purchase transaction if you want to check me out and have a 700 feedback rating on eBay as well.

Thanks.

Sorry, was watching my PMs before I left and forgot about the thread itself.

Basically, just wanted to advise that I might be getting rid of my EK soft-landing pads as well so if anyone wants first-dibs on that, let me know.
Price will be decent compared to its original price + shipping.

Thanks.

I just bought these as well.  Out of curiosity, why did you not choose to keep them?

I started off my experience with mech kbds earlier this year with a Das blue and I modded it with the EK soft-landing pads pretty much the day I rcvd it.

Therefore, my first consistent long typing experience with mech kbds and blue switches in particular was with a modded key and, as with everything else, if thats all you know, you start liking it as you dont know any better or havent tried anything else.

Now this Das blue keyboard was being used for and was always meant for work as I am on a PC all day [Onsite IT Support] so after using it for a short while I had soon pretty much decided that I would replace all my kbds at home with mechs.
I was dead set on getting a Filco but I live in Canada and the problems with taxes/customs and availability for Filcos here has been mentioned numerous times on this forum.

My gf was taking her mother on a vacation last month to Orlando and also to visit her cousin who lived there so I took the opportunity to order a metallic blue chassis Filco 104 with blues from Amazon and have it sent to her cousins place a few weeks before she got there so she could bring it back with her.

By this time, I had decided to switch to O-rings from WASD as they seemed a technically better choice but was waiting to get the Filco before I did the mod as the Das could just go home with the EK soft landing pads as it was.

Once I got the Filco, I gave the Das with EK-blues to the gf at home and started using the Filco at work but didnt do the O-ring mod right away as I was really busy with laptop upgrades at the time so ended up using the Filco for a couple of weeks in its factory state.

Yesterday, I had an hour to kill at work so I modded just the 26 letter keys and the moment I started using it, I realised I didnt like it at all.
The change and its effect on me seemed so drastic it caught me by surprise as I was expecting to get it back to what I was used to with the Das and that I would have no issues, but after using the "factory" config for more than a week, I dont think I will be going back to a modded key.

It also brought to mind a comment made by a poster somewhere else on this forum who had likened the damping of the bottoming out sound on a blue switch kbd as removing the soul of the kbd.

On a side note, after using the Filco in its unmodded state for weeks, I also noticed that the Das with EK-blues I had given to my gf seemed a lot "mushier" to me in the sense that the mushy feeling of the EK soft pads was a lot more obvious to me then it had been before when I had used it at work.

My suggestion to anyone who is trying to mod his keys would be to use it for a week without the mod and then use it right away after the mod and see whether you like the difference.

What's the status on this? Sold? More than one pack of o-rings? Been looking at it, in case it wasn't sold yet :thumb:

Thank you for the heads up, Spy user (if not, you'll get a shinny F5 in no time).

Not to crap the thread. GLWS for the EK pads!
