Does it play 1080p HD on YouTube?

Good Test Video
Not a valid youtube URL

No it does not, it limits my youtube videos to 480p. I can't hate on it however since the res on the screen is only 1280x800, 480p doesn't look bad at all on this device.

Bummer.  My  HP 210HD netbook does but I had to pay money for that.

Sidenote:  PS3 System Update and Neflix App 1.2 now fixed HD Widescreen!!!  Google TV still sucks with Netflix.

Meh, I have my networked blue ray player connected to my 55" 1080P LCD TV to do all of that... The CR-48 was not designed to be a "feature rich" product, it was designed to surf the net, for cheap, and that it does very well. I might switch off my smart phone and go with a dumb phone and the CR-48. It really does browse the web nice, perfect size and great for those sick days in bed. (Called in sick today because I ****ed up my foot and can't walk today)

I just use it as a benchmark.  I do a fair amount of photo/video work so I have to be able to play 1080p 24Mbps AVCHD video on my laptop.

Bummer about the  foot.

Recommend Ninja Movies.

Susan George is HAWT!

Good idea, maybe I'll watch Kung-Fu today... :) As for 1080p on the CR-48, it does play H264 in 1080p using it's chrome media player. But! Like I said, when watching with youtube, it caps you down to 480p. As for grunt work, I always use my desktop for that type of stuff. This is the first notebook I have owned since 2004, and I have to say that even though my notebook in 2004 had a ATi 9700 pro, and a AMD 64 3400+ and 2GB of ram, I like this CR-48 better... Performance wise, it is very low, but usability on normal browsing it is perfect. I can even play Robot Unicorn Attack on this thing ^_^

My eyes are open...

Yes and I do too, (On the CR-48/Gbook)... Alt makes it easier to right click instead of having to use a two fingered click and hope that both fingers were perfectly on the trackpad at the same time.

What About F5 and /b/?

I am never on /b/ I am usually on /g/ and 4chan4chrome auto refreshes. If I need a page to refresh I can press the refresh button in the top row next to the back and forward buttons. (Talking about on keyboard not in chrome near the esc key)

Yeah, you SAY you're never on /b/......

P.S. Is it me or does it look like the keyboards come from the same OEM as the HP?

My HP 210HD OK but not great arrow keys.

They looked HPish to me as well... And yes I am never on /b/ I actually found 4chuu through my friends, started on /o/ went to /a/ then instantly I found a home on /g/

I blame it more on the eclipse and the foster dog. He started fighting yesterday and I kicked him (NOT EVEN HARD), my foot was sore last night like I pulled a muscle or tendon, but this morning I damn near fell trying to get outta bed cause I just couldn't stand on my foot! I freaked the **** out. Ice and pain killers are helping... Sad thing is, I am an Network Engineer at my job, If my foot was fine, I still would have brought my Gbook to work and showed it off to all of my co-workers.

Stallman is an amazing man, don't get me wrong, but he should do a little more research into the devices he bashes, before doing so. The CR-48 or what I am now calling my GBook, has a 16GB SSD in which you save files locally to. So I feel like I can have some control about what I choose to do with my data. Sometimes I wish Stallman would just change dealers, because the **** he has been smoking for the last 30 years hasn't done his brain much good.

Have an iPad by any chance?  That kind of sickbed user experience is what I am most interested in.  This guy gave it pretty low marks in comparison.

I have an ipad in the office, it is not mine, but I use it day to day. I like the CR-48 more.

Could you be a bit more specific about the iPad versus CR-48 comparison. The iPad has a reputation of being pretty responsive for simple web browsing (other than that Flash thing and it seems the CR-48 isn't great there either).

Obviously the keyboard is a plus but when in a armchair/sickbed an iPad may  actually be better if you are just browsing with minimal typing.

The GBook is WAY better for compatibility of sites. Having a mouse is great, touch screen is meh. As far as Flash support being buggy, well sorry Ripster you got trolled by a bad reviewer. Flash runs just as good on this device as it would on any machine running google chrome in a GNU/Linux environment, which is decent. Typing on this compared to ipad is SOO much better. I can look away from the screen and continue to type. I actually have something my fingers can feel. The screen is larger and the resolution is proper for normal web browsing, I feel many sites need to be zoomed out to be able to be viewed on the ipad, whereas the I never have to play with zoom settings on the CR-48. The CR-48 is just as responsive as the ipad, and I have gotten 9.5 hours of battery life on this thing as of today. (backlight on lowest setting, yet is usable in low light settings.) The backlight is also VERY bright when you want it to be so. I was using it in bright sunlight this afternoon and could read the screen just fine. I also like the free 3G Verizon Wireless data plan it set me up with, lets see apple give me a free device and free interweb. As for GUI speed, It is on par with ipad, except I can actually do more at once with the GBook than the ipad. The only thing I like about the ipad better is games. But I don't play many of them so I am not missing out on much anyway.

But they arn't dumb terminals! LOL. People who don't have a cr-48 don't understand google's approach to the cloud. All work is done directly on this machine. It is basically if you took any laptop, opened google chrome, maximized the window and poof you are halfway there to a cr-48. If people are implying processing and other tasks do not occur within their web browsers they are very mistaken. I would like to remind people as well, that storage is also handled locally as the machine has a 16GB SSD.

I think it is a good experiment. Some people CAN live 100% in the cloud. However, most of those people (casual Internet users, elderly, etc) probably have no idea this pilot is going on.

Most of the people getting these are likely people like us...and are using the laptop as a secondarycomputer. No way would the majority of the folks here be able to function, exclusively, "in the cloud". :)

I still want one to play with though. I'll give it to my uncle when I'm done playing. He's a perfect candidate.

LOL almost 5/10 trolling.

Imma let you finish but It also costs 0% of your HP210D costs, it also boots in about 5 seconds flat from a cold boot, resumes from suspend faster than I can blink and eye, has almost a 10 hour battery life, and ubuntu can be installed on it, so you CAN pretty do much 100% of what your netbook can do.

I think I fit in iMav's catagory here. Remember the CR-48 is not 100% apart of the cloud either, it has local storage, it has a browser, it has a media player, it has a terminal that can be opened and played with,   installable flash games/apps and it also has a text editor. (All local) Speaking of the Terminal...  Notice they gave me an SSH utility, Haven't messed with it yet but I am planning on offloading/working with my Desktop soon. ^_^ I'll post screenshots of that when I get around to it.

Media Player:
about:flags
enable the media player
reboot.
Play H264 and other codec's from your MicroSD/USB drive or local storage if you choose.

Text editor:
Notes, not much of anything but functional when you are off the cloud.

I told them the truth, something along the lines of, I would probably use it a lot when the go, which happens to be more often than not. I also told them I grew up in a developers family as my dad is a programmer and I report a lot of bugs.

Truthfully I do use the CR-48 more than my desktop... But like I said, I haven't been around home to much these past weeks, I generally keep myself occupied.

I like the way Apple does it better. I'm pretty sure they use their target market for product testing which is why their products tend to be popular.  In other words regular people can use the technology.

But Apple advertises "think different", so, that means they don't want regular people to use them?

Of course they totally stole IBM's "THINK" motto.

From what I have read, Google has only shipped out 10,000 out of a total of 60,000 units that they plan on giving away for free during their trial. So if you were one the people who signed up earlier, I would assume that you still have a decent chance at getting one. Don't give up hope.

I am confused at what your are saying, what exactly do you feel apple does better? I think you are implying that apple has a better way of product testing then that of google? Not for sure... I don't mean to start an argument I was just curious what you ment.

I also got a cr-48 and to be honest I wasn't very impressed although my grandparents like that they don't have to pay for wifi while at the casinos ( I gave it to them after a week). I just couldn't find a practical use for it, but the quickness of the startup was so impressive that I had to go buy an SSD for MBP.
