Comic help!
« on: Thu, 17 November 2011, 02:20:22 »
Hey guys so I recently read some of my roommates comics and I really want to read more and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a few? The ones I have read were in the Avengers series and I really like those. But for reference my favorite super heroes are batman and Captain America. So if anyone could recommend a good series with possibly one of the characters in I would be thankful :D I really want a darker more mature comic, and I want it to have a superhero in it. Again I love batman so that would be preferred.

i tend to follow "artists" more than comics, not cuz i'm a fanboi, but cuz they largely make it good or bad, you want good captn america? you need to read the marvel "ultimate" universe. Here's the skinny all marvel comics are in one universe (i forget the universe number, not that nerdy) so they make this alternative universe called the Ultimate universe, and title the comics like so..
Ultimate x-men
Ultimate spiderman
so on

The Ultimates is basically the avengers and if you've seen any marvel movie lately (ironman/captn america/thor) you'll be like why is nick fury black? cuz they wanted SLJ? no that's cuz they're taking their cues from the Ultimate universe.

try these

i don't recommend all of them, i just did a search, like the blade edition sucks lol, blade is a scrub.

Mark Millar does them all? most of them? so maybe follow him,

i like the storylines of warren ellis also

quick mark millar
nemesis
again just a general search
i like
planetary
the authority (might be hard to get into if you don't know the wildstorm lineup)
no hero
supergod

i like these paperback all in one things i can't be bothered to get the comics as they come out monthly, heck i don't even have a comic store so these all in one's are great.

if you want more just ask i guess.

My friend introduced me to Will Eisner's 'The Spirit'. It's kind of like batman, without all the rich tools that bruce wayne has. I have a few trades of it. It's pretty good and I enjoyed reading them.

A artist I like is Ashley Wood, who's done the Metal Gear Solid comics (which is one of my favourite game series) and I love his art style. Unfortunately no super hero (unless you count Snake).
