IBM Model Ms - Spacesaver != TKL
« on: Tue, 03 January 2012, 14:58:48 »
I was looking into getting an IBM Model M and I was interested in getting one without a numpad. I remembered seeing people talking about IBM Model M Space Savers and always assumed that was the word they used for TKL but apparently I was under the wrong impression.

What exactly makes the Space Saver a space saver? How do they refer to IBM Model Ms without a numpad?

Technically the IBM is the Space Saving. Not Saver, Saving.

TKL  AND IBM spacesaver in the same sentence.

Shoot me now!

Tenkeyless and IBM Space Saving.  See the link.

Every time I write TKL I think of how much you're going to hate it when you see it. :) Still, in the interest of keeping thread titles a reasonable length it has its usefulness, and even in general since we use the term tenkeyless so much having an abbreviation for it is a good idea. How do you feel about first time full use and subsequent abbreviated use? For example:

Tenkeyless (TKL) keyboards make the dude mad. This is because people abbreviate TKL keyboards in a way that he deems to be unacceptable.

Regarding the space saver/space saving, if you haven't seen it already, elitekeyboards.com has the name space saving on their front page but when you follow the link the URL and the top of the page use the term spacesaver. Inconsistency! For this one I honestly didn't know that space saver was an undesirable term, it's the one that I've seen thrown around and in this case, I will abide by the dude's law of the land.

At least "Mini" wasn't in there too.
