Windowed PBT Keycaps
« on: Tue, 10 September 2013, 09:29:57 »
Is there anywhere I can buy windowed PBT keycaps in black blanks for the F9, Scroll Lock and Caps Lock keys? I've got a PBT ISO keycap set coming but they don't have the windowed cutouts for LEDs. I don't mind but I'd prefer to have the windowed keys for those three particular keys for aesthetic reasons.

Sounds like you you want KBC/Keycool PBT caps that are available prevalently on Taobao (via Buychina.com and other agents).

http://www.buychina.com/items/kay-cool-machine-keyboards-cap-108-key-104-key-87-key-84-key-pbt-pom-material-spacebar-zqrrmusnqkg

If you scroll down in those images, you'll see that a number have the windows you mention.

If you don't want go via Taobao, Imsto or Feng here on GH might be able to find what you're looking for.

Will they be the same profile as the Ducky keycaps though and I'm not sure if I can buy the individual keys like what I want.

I think it unlikely you'd be able to buy just those keys specifically, but you could try posting in the classified to see if anybody has some lying around. Otherwise, you might just be stuck buying a whole set.

The ones I linked to look like standard "OEM" profile. I'm not sure what your Ducky uses though.

The American Ducky keycap sets have them but they understandably won't sell me the individual keycaps I want.

Ducky uses OEM profile.

Occasionally a group buy will include windows 1x R1 keycaps in PBT - depending on how urgently you want them, and how important a good colour match is, try lurking around the GB forum and see if anyone is including them in a set.  Usually they are an optional add-on.

You might try camping out here and here.

Blank black PBT with windows in OEM profile will be VERY hard to find.

Even just a good set of blank black PBT is hard to find. AFAIK the Ducky sets (OEM profile) and Ivan's GB (Cherry profile?) are the only places to get them.

If you don't mind the difference in texture, you could get the Banggood Blank Black POM 87 or 84 key set. The 84 key set has 3x single keys with windows and 1x caps lock with window. The 87 key has 2x singles and a caps lock. OEM profile.

May be worth getting just to try POM, maybe you will use the whole set on your board ;)

Otherwise you'll have to buy a full Ducky set. That way, you've got some spare caps, too. Only option I can see for the correct blank black PBT with windows you want.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

Yeah the ANSI Ducky PBT keycap sets have the windowed keys but since my keyboard is ISO I'd obviously have to buy the full set which I don't want to do. For some reason the ISO set didn't come with the windowed keys :(

beware banggood pom set as the key's fit so tight they will rip out your switches if you try to remove them... >___<

I've had this set for a while now, but am afraid to try them out for this reason…

They loosen up if you cycle them a few times on and off any spare switch you have. Clears work best as they seem to have the thickest stem for some reason. 3 or 4 times per cap and they grip about the same as the stock ABS on my Ducky. Give it a try if you have a loose switch or you can use a corner switch that you can grip the switch top of somehow.

I really like them actually. They feel different from PBT, though. I don't have any black PBT to compare them to, but I suspect they're shinier. I don't think I'll end up using the windowed ones in my set, so I can send them to you to try if you like.    :)

I was under the impression that the sets which came on keyboards had windows but not the ones sold separately.

Not too sure, I bought the set separately since I disliked the stock ABS keycaps on the QFR.
