What stabilizers are these?

Hey geekhack. first post here, even though I've lurked here awhile.

Can anyone tell me what stabilizers these are? they're from a Corsair Vengeance K60 keyboard

(Ugh, can't post links or images - forum isn't letting me, sorry for the inconvenience. spam protection?)

they feel a bit mushy and they increase the actuation force needed to press. also a bit wiggly. very distracting and inconsistent feel with red switches.

Those are Cherry stabilizers. Or clones of them.

thanks, they probably went the cheapest route since the keyboards aren't even fully mechanical, so I'm guessing they're a clone? or are cherry stabilizers normally kind of difficult to push and a bit mushy and wiggly?

This seems to be the general consensus comparing the Costar style stabilizers used in Filco for example.

Well whatever they are, they suck because my space bar started sticking... guess I'll be returning and buying a different keyboard. but I LOVE the red sculpted rubber WASD and 1-6 keys on the K60, it's a shame no other keyboards have that... or is there?

I recall a claim that Corsair would be selling those special keycaps separately at a later date.  You may luck out.

somehow I doubt that since right now they're the only ones with them, so it's a market advantage they have that they wouldn't want to loose.

anyways, it turned out to just be a piece of dirt stuck in one of the stabilizers. although now that I already submitted for refund, I'm starting to consider other keyboards. but I really like the keycaps and the aluminum bezel on the Corsair's, just sucks they used cheap stabilizers and rubber dome keys for the top row

Now that I have used Leopold for a while, I must say the Cherry style stabilizers are perfectly fine. They're a bit "wiggly" but not mushy at all.

I don't miss the Costar ones at all when I'm typing on my Leo.

Update here on the stabilizers, I found this picture on the wiki,



the corsair ones definitely look like the ones on the Leopold. are they both different types of cherry stabilizers? or is the one on the right a leopold brand or something else?

Left is Cherry PCB mounted, right is Cherry plate mounted.   There has been speculation that the Leopold itself is using knock-offs for some reason.  Considering they are using true Cherry switches I can't imagine a reason that they wouldn't also use Cherry stabilizers.

just curious because i've seen quite an amount of "gaming" mechanical keyboards using the stabilizer in the right.
honestly i've never seen anything like the one in the left before :O

Most board that come out as gaming boards are plate mounted so you wouldnt see the PCB mounted stabilizer.

aren't plate mounted switches suppose to be more stable than PCB mounted with the extra 2 feet?

PCB have the 2 extra feet and yes they are more stable because they mount to the plate.

so are these plate mounted stabilizers a knockoff? or real cherry? I still don't like the feel of them with Cherry MX Red switches, they feel inconsistent compared to the other keys, but I may try lube as suggested. but I imagine it's harder to lube plate-mounted ones.

uh? did you mean lubing the switches? or just the stabilizer itself?

Those are real Cherry G99 plate mounted stabilizers imported from Cherry Corp Germany. The lube won't help with the incosistent feel, but it could help with the rattle, if you are willing to take apart the whole keyboard and desolder all the switches to get access to the stabilizers.
These stabilizers don't work very well with light switches like reds, but with the stiffer blacks these feel great.

 hmmm, my 7G spacebar still squeaks a little when i pressed on the most left side of the spacebar (lubed with grease from my brother's toy model car).
i have no idea how to fix this other than pressing the spacebar near dead-centre :/

There is a gap for the spacebar stabilizer. It is the only stabilizer that can be removed without desoldering all the switches from the pcb and separate it from the mounting plate.
Remove the stabilizer and lube the wire and the plastic part with super lube where the wire snaps in. Also you can try to grind down the guiding rails with a dremmel. It should help with the sticking.
