It's okay.  Several moons ago we gave our Commodore 64, software and perfectly working disk drives (!!! this is the important part...) away to a school.  Then roll around to the early days of ebay and saw what they were going for.  Especially those drives. :(

I guarantee the school sold them and that's what feels the worst about it.

HAHAHA... seems like we have any early bidder on it. I expect to see some sniping at the end though.

Listen, folks, take it from a guy who has bought and sold hundreds of items for thousands of dollars on ebay:

*     *     *     *     *     *     *     *     *

DO  NOT  BID !

*     *     *     *     *     *     *     *     *

SNIPE  ONLY !

*     *     *     *     *     *     *     *     *

I promise you, that if you decide, in advance, what you are truly willing to pay for an item, and put in a snipe at that price, you are more likely to win, at a lower price, than if you bid the same amount.

There are always exceptions, and ebay will always put in the highest bid AFTER the highest snipe, but making a formal public bid is simply the same as "showing your hand" in a card game.

Trust me. Try it 10 times each way, controlled, scientifically.

Heck, prove me wrong, if you can. But I do not believe that you can.

*     *     *     *     *     *     *

PS - on any item that I, personally, am bidding on, disregard the above advice and put in your maximum bid as early as possible.
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.

Is stating obvious facts in an overly dramatic manner considered trolling ?

I wouldn't say it's "obvious" especially from experience: It happens so frequently! Foghat.Digs' heart is in the right place.

My method is to wait for it to fail to sell (with no bids) and contact the seller later for low prices.

It is when the person who bid said:

go to auctionsniper.com and just sign up.

I think that you may have to put up maybe $5 (via Paypal) to open an account, but you only get dinged for "pennies" and only when you win. Or you may even get your first couple of snipes free.

seriously, unlike everything ebay/Paypal where they bloodsuck the seller dry every time a transaction goes through, Auction Sniper is dirt cheap and very reliable.

I put in $5 about once or twice a year and that usually covers me fine.

it is a serious bargain and your only defense against the ebay/Paypal juggernaut.

Or not.

just bid the old-fashioned way and keep losing and/or paying too much. no point in staying pure when everybody else is gaming the system.
