Keyboards in UK
« on: Wed, 21 March 2012, 14:02:00 »
Greetings,

I need to know the best BROWN switch mechanical keyboard I can get with £50 - £80 and/or a online store that will sell a CM Storm Quickfire and deliver it to the UK, I have tried searching myself but I am not a keyboard expert so I need help.

Thank you for reading.

If I was you I would save up the 100 it is to buy a filco. They are the best normal layout cherry keyboard and in the UK there not that much more expensive than other models.
Check out keyboardco.com

They cost £120 in the UK and even though I could purchase it for that amount (but can't since I have limited money), it would be nice if there was alternatives that at least be second best if you understand what I am saying here.

Do you want a full layout? Would you mind importing?

Don't mind about layouts and don't mind importing (question: would it cost extra?)

Check out the chocmini and the keycool 87. You can find reviews for both on here and can be bought from qtan (member here) for around 60 for the keycool and 70 for the choc mini including shipping. I have imported a poker through him and got it marked as gift so I didn't get hit by customs.
Unless you are looking at spending a little bit more money these are the only 2 real options.

Grr ... now I remember, Keyboardco don't stock the bog standard Cherry G30-8000 keyboards with brown switches. From Bruce back in 2010, "Just had confirmation from Cherry that they have never made a UK 3000 with Browns so they would want quite a large production order. Unless there is a fair demand I wouldn't be able to do that."

Pretty annoying, as that's a more budget price range. I wasn't sure whether to go FILCO or Cherry originally, and went FILCO primarily on style despite the significantly greater cost, without realising that I couldn't have had a G30-8000 with MX browns anyway, as Cherry aren't very good at specifying boards. WTF is wrong with Cherry? Their mini trackball/trackpad ML keyboards all have stupid layouts – they can't seem to make a single one with a proper reduced layout (like on a laptop, with ISO layout shift, \ and enter keys, ctrl before fn, and left win and context menu keys). None of the other mini boards (to which you could duct tape a FILCO trackpad) have ML switches.

That's assuming PCB mount is OK. I've never tried a G30-8000. Personally I need proper ISO layout, so options for me are a lot more limited ... I've considered maybe one day ordering a G80 from Germany with clears though.
