MX518 /w Rocketfish mousepad [Outdated?]
« on: Sat, 31 March 2012, 20:23:48 »
I'm using a MX518 with no drivers (using the non-gaming edition one, and I do believe I should install the drivers because this is different than the gaming edition which I believe drivers should NOT be installed on) & I was wondering if this is an outdated mouse or not as far as gaming goes.

Sure, I'm happy with it, but there are some problems:
1) Logo is starting to wear
2) MOUSE4/5 buttons on the mouse feel like they aren't being recognized as quickly as a keyboard stroke (on a cheap rubber-dome)

The positives:
The sensor seems to be alright, I believe this mouse suffers from jittering (I'm not sure if it's Z or Y axis, I have no idea what I'm talking about - lol).
It feels great on my plastic mouse pad (Best Buy Rocket Fish, control side)

So what I'd like to know:
Is there a better mouse that can take advantage of my plastic mouse pad?
A couple years ago, I was recommended a steelseries xai for FPS gaming (but at the moment I do a mix of mainly MMORPGs and a tad FPS).
Am I correct about the high input lag with the mouse buttons on the MX518? Would a Razer Naga, for example, have a better response time with the mouse buttons?

I know comfort is a big deal for me with a mouse, and I don't mind using claw style (like razor death adder) or the current style I have now (MX518 grip style).

The MX518 is a legend. If you must get a replacement, then get the Logitech G400. It's exactly the same, with a better finish, and a slightly upgraded sensor.

Truthfully, I just wanted to know if the buttons on the mouse were out of date. Furthermore, the sensor I am considered with, because I would like to take advantage of the plastic mouse pad (Unfortunately, I feel it's not as comfortable as a cloth one).

About the drivers, should I install them?

I appreciate the post and the information you chimed in with, thanks.

EDIT: Should I change the polling rate to 500MHz? I believe it was calling polling rate, but I could be wrong. I tried 1000Hz and it felt/was unstable. At the moment, I don't even use CPL mouse fix... do you recommend me using that, again?

I just bought a G400 actually and I haven't noticed any issues at all with the mouse4/5 so it may be your mouse getting old. I am using the software and such that came with it so that I can program dpi and such.

Well, I'm sure the mediocre latency in my game isn't helping me test it much. In the past, I only used the buttons for communication (and ventrilo was known to be a tad "laggy").

I'd like to know what's the best sensor on the market for my Rocket Fish mousepad.
