IBM Type M keyboards are probably the most durable and long-lasting of all keyboards. They take mistreatment and keep on working in the worst conditions. They also can be repaired fairly easily in the rare instance when they do fail. I've done the bolt mod a few times (not on this particular board), and it's a breeze.
The SSK, or space saving keyboard, is valued for its Type M roots combined with a small footprint, allowing a right-handed mouse to be closer to the home row hand position (closer than on a regular Type M). They command higher prices than the regular M because of the desirability of the smaller size combined with scarcity.
