Key Cools any good
« on: Mon, 30 April 2012, 06:00:10 »
I am after a smallish red board but they are a bit hard to come by in the UK.

Posted a couple messages for a Poker red and not much has happened so checked Qtan's ebay page and he seems to be selling a Key Cool TKL with red switches for a not unreasonable sum.

So I was thinking that since my Noppoo does not work with my Mac I can get a brown Poker from the group buys so I can carry it around and get a Key Cool red as my gaming keyboard. Given that red filcos are not too far off from becoming a reality apparently what are your thoughts on Key cools? Are they any good? Build quality/feel ?

Thanks to everyone

Thanks, I should start using the search function a bit more often! Sounds like a decent keyboard and half the price of a Filco... hm food for thought!

It depend on where you come from. Unless you are from a country with cheap shipping from China and cheap taobao agent fees, it will end up near 90USD also.

Well a Filco in the UK is near the 160-170$ mark from Keyboardco, the key cool from Qtan's ebay uk sale is about 90-100$ so considerable difference if the quality is similar.

If you are interested, then I will leave will with some final advices.

The built of the keyboard is solid and good. The main flaws of the keyboard is it keys offset/misaligned problem(newer batches had it solved or "improved", not too sure to what extend) and the random ghosting(under USB) when over 7-10 keys being pressed(but it isn't really much a concern as normal keyboard also stuck under USB6KRO, so I will call it a draw there).

The so called "gold plated" USB wire isn't too durable in term of anti-oxidation(may be cause I came from a humid and hot country?). And you might had some minor flaw such as squeaking(will not affecting the function of keyboard) with those stabilized keys, namely spacebar. Remount or lubricate it properly will probably fix it, or else change the steel wires if it really bother you.

In short, the keyboard is a solid and functional board. But, it is not mean for a perfectionist that seek for a perfect board.

Thanks for your comments! Much appreciated! I think I will just wait for the Filco to go red really and keep that at home and take my Noppoo brown to work, and get a Poker brown as a home typing/take with me keyboard.
