Keycool OR Noppoo
« on: Fri, 11 May 2012, 20:33:19 »
(I've posted this before, but GeekHack's lovely servers are having a ball going back in time at the moment aren't they?)

So these two keyboard brands fall quite comfortably into my budget, I'm just wondering if anyone has owned both and which one do they prefer for various reasons. Even now it's alot of money to blow on one thing, so I'd just like some opinions comparing the two, as I've done enough google searching to see that there aren't really any opinions of them head to head.

Which one do you prefer and why?

I don't prefer them both. Keycool seems just like a cheap version of Leopold. And I used to had interested on Noppoo Mini, but I was told by not only my friends, but a distributor in China about it's poor quality.

IMK, no big fault could happen in a mechanical keyboard, but seems like Plu and Noppoo changed my mind. I've heard many discussion in the Chinese forums about how they are no working.

My Noppoo Choc Mini is wonderful.

What bad things have you heard, exactly?

Thanks Feng and DMBR, more for me to think about. Considering I am currently using one of the worst keyboards in the entire world right now, I doubt I'd tell if they were poor quality compare to this. But I'll heed the warning.

I have two Noppoo mini boards, they aren't Filco quality but I still love them!

I have a noppoo choc mini and it's the first board I got. I didn't want to spend more to get a filco and I was more interested in the layout of the noppoo and how much space it saves. If you like customizing your keyboard with more than just novelty key caps, the keycool would be a better option because the noppoo has non-standard sized keys and it's more difficult to find.

I personally like the noppoo more than other boards because I don't really ever move away from the main part of the keyboard(I came from using small laptops for a loooong time), and that's all the noppoo really is.

I'm very happy with my Choc Mini. I have the white version with think PBT keycaps and for the money I think its great.

The only downside that comes to mind is the slightly non-standard layout, but it sin't that bad.

Yeah that's the conclusion I came to while reading, the Noppoo seems very decent for the money. However looking at the keycool which is supposed to be a Leopold clone I was interested to see if that's better bang for buck.

Thanks guys!

Feng said that it's not as good quality wise as the Leopold. I do think I remember reading somewhere that it's not like the Quickfire where it came out of Filco's factory, but rather just an unshameful clone of the Leo.
