Noisy spacebar Noppoo Choc Mini
« on: Fri, 30 December 2011, 05:07:29 »
Hey,

I just got the Noppoo Choc Mini White with MX Brown. I'm pleased with the keyboard and switches, but spacebar is kinda noisy on the right side.
Should I take it out? If so, how? Keycaps seem to stay in place unlike in SS G6 v2 where they almost used to pop out from no reason lol.

For some reason I'm unable to add add any video :/

Damn, that squeaky sound is killing me.
Remove the bigger keys, and apply some lubricant on the stabilizers.
Silicone grease is your best bet. You can buy a syringe from Elitekeyboards, or get some Super lube.
Report back with a new video when you are done.

I have heard of people putting tiny pieces of tape on the stabilizers. To get rid of that little rattle. Mine did the same thing but I didn't mess with it.

Do you mean to put it on the wire or the plastic stabilizer inserts. Do you have any links?

I think it is more likely going to work than lubricating the stabilizers. It's like the right stabilizer isn't high enough or something...
I just don't know how to remove alts and then the spacebar without a key puller. :(

Lubrication works. It has been proven many times before. All you need is a high visousity thick lubricant.

I don't have a guide sorry just seen it recommended a couple times. I think they put the tape on the wire.

My plu and razer boards were making the same sounds so I bought white lithium grease from my local home depot and lubricated. World of difference.

Okay. I'm able to pull out keycaps easily using plastic thingie from a pci slot cover, lol.
But I'm a little scared of levering the spacebar. I don't really want to break something down there; could any noppoo mini owner could post a clip how to pull it out? Unless it's retard-proof and all I have to do is pull it like other keycaps. :p Dat spacebar is creaking sometimes now, if pressed on the right side.
Still need to buy a lubricant though.

Thanks, I figured it out already. It's the same as in membrane keyboards, just 10 times more expensive and I don't really like messing with stuff like that on day1. :p

Now I just got to buy that lube. Will post the results, thanks :)

The noisy spacebar on mine wasn't fixed by lubing, it's because there is too much play where the stabilizers go into the stabilizer inserts. Wrap a small amount of tape around the end of the stabilizer that goes into the stabilizer insert and it should fix it if it's  not a lube issue.

That's why you need a thicker grease, and not lithium grease.

I've had loose plastic inserts as well as the black tabs rattling.

I've been in love with my Choc Mini since I got it, now I just found out my spacebar rattles.

Oh well, i don't really care. Doesn't bother me much. If it becomes a bother I'll do the tape on the stabilizer.

Another fix would be to just bend the stabilizer a bit so that it is riding along the top of the hole. If you go this route, you're not really bending it a whole lot, about 1/32".

I used some ducktape in those places  and spacebar seems to be working perfectly now. Need to do the same with backspace, enter and left shift now. :)

Thanks again!

Used a sewing thread to pull up my Alt and spacebar keys and vaseline on the stabilizer. Worked great and now does the spacebar sound just as expected. :)
