Hi all,

I would like to learn how to touch type properly and to also learn Dvorak. What is the best software to do this? I have searched the site but found nothing so I apologise if this is a common topic, I even looked in the Wiki's!

No Dorvak though.

After these lessons, your fingers should know the layout. I then practiced at http://www.keyhero.com/.

Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing?

I learned to touch type in high school, sort of. Had some old software that was based on a black typing champion's lessons, it was probably several years old when I was using it. Can't remember much about it besides the fact that the guy bore a striking resemblance to a black walrus, if they existed.

It'll come to me later and i'll say "yeah, that's it."

Nothing beats Typing of the Dead 2 for typing trainer. It's effective and semi entertaining so it doesn't feel like chores. Won't help you learn other layout, besides forcing you to deal with it and use it or have your brains eaten.

I think it's a legitimately useful typing trainer. Very demanding, but also fun enough that you'll actually spend time with it. The boss fights feature "special cases" - very tricky.

If I remember well you can type at more than 100wpm. That is speed, I can only go up to 60wpm using dvorak

I like type racer. This was on a rubber some ergo before I got my Leos.

Now when you guys say touch type does it mean not looking or not looking AND not bottoming out? Bottoming out makes me go faster. Can't be bothered to focus on stopping at activation point.

Hmm, how many of these support Dvorak? Exactly, I want to be "proper" not "fast". Is it just: convert the keyboard, pick a game and go?

Well, keybr.com has support for QWERTY (US & UK), Dvorak and Colemak and I think puts focus on accuracy. You can choose a webpage from which to type or just use their random English wordlike generator that seems to create 'words' from English spelling rules. It also includes some actual words too. Interesting concept.

Typing Tutor 7 is my favorite program. It supports Dvorak too.

Once you know all the key positions, Typeracer would be a good addictive online typing game.

Typing Tutor 7 does. So does Mavis Beacon and Typing Master. They even tried to lift your fingers without your permission.
