KBTalking Faulty Baclighting
« on: Fri, 27 July 2012, 15:49:55 »
Before the Crash, there were a few threads on problems with the backlighting on the Race and/or Pure failing after some weeks/months of use. Any further word on this? I have a white with white backlighting LE Race, and it came with 5 keys where the backlighting is dim (about half as bright as the other keys, at all levels of brightness).

Way to fix?

Check the soldering on the surface mount resistors. They're labeled R with number next to it.

Guess I first ought to invest in some soldering equipment.  Problem is that I'm in an apartment; I have a small balcony where I can create a limited amount of toxicity, but it's going to be a very small workspace.  Guess I chose a rich man's hobby.  To boot, I live in In Israel, in the middle of the Negev Desert...  The tools are not going to come cheap.  Perhaps, I should have picked something like stamp collecting.

There were at least 3 people complaining about this after 3-4 months of use just before the GH wipeout.

I'd try to contact Vortex/KBT and see if they'll fix it. This should not be happening.
My wife I a also push her button . But now she have her button push by a different men. So I buy a keyboard a mechanicale, she a reliable like a Fiat.

Yes, I remember the complaints.  You are 100% correct, but I hear that contacting Vortex/KBT, and getting them to do something is not an easy process.  Even if they agree to fix or replace it, I'm in the middle of the Negev Desert, and the time and money necessary to rectify the situatuation might be better spent on getting some tools and learning how to do it myself.  I'll be 65 in a few months, live alone, and am partially disabled...  So, I have plenty of free time, and I need something to keep my noggin sharp :)
