Did Some Redecorating

A couple of weekends ago, I decided to finally start redecorating my house.  After my ex-fiancee and I broke up, well, let's just say the house looked a little empty (don't expand these pics, all I have is a crappy cell phone camera):

There's still some painting and stuff I want to do, but that will come eventually.  I wanted to take pics of the "theater," but they didn't come out very well since the room is painted a very dark shade of grey-blue.  I had one posted before, but it looked like crap (and most of the pic was the back of the TV).  Anyway, it feels much more like a home now and not a temporary arrangement like an apartment.

Nice work! It looks a lot more comfortable than your average single engineering dude home and the painting you've got planned will add a nice touch. It's understandably looking a little sparse for now. Let's see more pics after you figure out the rest of the redecorating.

BTW, I'm sorry to hear about the split. I can't imagine how hard it must be to break things off after you're already engaged. My wife and I had an extended engagement so I had a lot of time to occasionally ponder what a ****storm it'd be if we ended up not going through with the ceremony.

P.S. So where's the photo of Steve Jobs and the iMac? ;)

I still need to decide if I want to put a TV in the living room or not. I like having the theater, but it's not very convenient if you have more than 3 people watching TV, and my GF and I make up 2. I want to put another projector in there and move the TV out to the living room, but that costs money, so we'll see. The first thing I want to do is paint an accent wall where is console and the large picture is in the last pic. I also want to add a couple of floor lamps as well and, maybe, paint the rest of the living room a darker, greyer cream color. Before I do that, though, my parents and I are trading couches so it will change the look in the living room a bit, so I want to see what that looks like before I make any final painting decisions. I know it looks sparse, but I like that. Too much "stuff" bugs me (see: the pics that I posted of my work setup).
 
BTW, I am clearly a Windows 7 guy.

Oh, I also want to replace those crappy miniblinds with wood ones. I threw those up when I bought the house 3 years ago, so I could move in without the neighbors discovering why I'm the ItlnStln while I was trying to figure out how I wanted to decorate.

Thanks!  I just replaced the faucet due the hard water tearing up the internals (I have a water softener now).  The nozzle pulls out as a sprayer and has soap pump; it's pretty sweet.  The refrigerator I got from a scratch and dent (ApplianceSmart, if you live in the US).  It's a GE Profile Arctica that I got, brand new, for $600 ($2900 MSRP).  The only thing it had was a small dent in the main door panel; it's kinda on the edge and not very noticable.  The only thing I would change in the kitchen is a gas stove/oven.  Unfortunately, gas is not offered in the neighborhood, so I'm stuck with electric.  We are also going to trade out the wine bottles on the cabinets with those from local wineries.  Most of them are, but we want to finish the job (and add a few more in the process).  This weekend, I think I might run rope lights behind the wine bottles for some of webwit's ambient lighting.  I'll take some more pics when I get it done.

Probably, but the house isn't plumbed for gas, either.  The cost wouldn't be worth it, IMO.

Yeah it really depends on the situation. If your kitchen is against an outside wall, which a lot of kitchens are, they can just punch through the wall and run some copper lines to your stove.

If you're on an interior wall (and maybe you are, I don't remember seeing a window there) then it's probably not worth it unless you're going to be there for a long time.

Now that it's decorated, f' sho'. Everyone of my GF's friends (and mine, too, for that matter) really like it. There are no walls between the picture of the kitchen and the last one, so you can almost see the back of the house from the front.

That's the best kind of house to have a party in. Open floorplans are conducive to social gatherings. Kinda like how your keyboard improves your interface with your computer, the built environment plays a role in how you interact with people around you.

LOL, I'm part coder, part writer, and part mixed artist and I have the combined bad habits of all. I'm just as likely to be awake at 5am as I am at 5pm if I've got a ton of work to dig through.

Maybe the bigger question is what's an Ironcoder doing wake during prime engineering sleepy time? ;)
