Datahand DH-200 on ebay

http://www.ebay.com/itm/DataHand-Ergonomic-Keyboard-DH200-Data-Hand-/270871878663?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item3f1138dc07#ht_500wt_1413

This is what a COMPLETE DH-200 looks like, note the grey box and all those cables.

I dig the black with the blue key switches. The story from Datahand is that they didn't make the blue key switches...but I've seen the pic several times before...this unit may be a famous prop?

Oooo, that's nice.

"powers up but not tested, unit has been stored for some time. I believe it was used as prop"

Interesting, do you think that this ever actually worked? Was it just a prop for Datahand to present at shows?

Check this out:

Webwit asked Datahand about a picture he saw of an older model that was black and had blue key switches. Datahand said they NEVER MADE the blue switches and that the end user must have that mod since they are unfamiliar with it. There are a couple pics on the internet of showing this. Now, BANG! this same color scheme pops up on ebay and is quoted as a possible 'prop'. Yea, you guessed right, I immediately sent the seller an email with a few questions (how long have you had it, do you know the history, etc).

I need to scurry over to the EU before it collapses and inform Webwit.

????

Is this where it was used?

EDIT:

It looks like it is not the same one, the one in "Contact" appears to be shiny. . . I read somewhere that there was a datahand used in a mighty morphin power ranger show or movie once. . . maybe that is where it is from?

That's because it probably wasn't made by DataHand, rather by Industrial Innovations before DataHand Systems was even formed. And if that's the case, then it's probably the same version (if not the same ITEM) that was used as a prop for the OG Power Rangers series.

Check out stuff from the "Buxton Collection" at Microsoft Research: http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/people/bibuxton/buxtoncollection/a/pdf/data%20hand%20informal%20prospectus.pdf He's also the host of the ubiquitous pic of the blue DataHand.

Also: http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/people/bibuxton/buxtoncollection/pivot.htm

I bet he would know the whole story.

Also, keyboard collection is not particularly impressive, but TIL that "Matrox" made ALPSpads.

Why on Earth did they waste such a marvelous design on mimicking such a horrendous layout?!

I can't believe a piece of **** rebranded Datalux was the first wireless keyboard.

Yeah I saw that. . . I have an unused Datalux.  Don't like the feeling of the switch so I keep it in a closet in the original box. . . . with all the other keyboard miscellany.

I still thing $200 (current bid) is a lot for such an old datahand, but they are kind-of awesome. He says to read his return policy, but I don't see it on the listing.

I thought it was fair as well, been contemplating getting one for years, but they've been unaffordable to me. Finally, with the appearance of a fairly priced model, and another episode of RSI, I was motivated to take a shot at one. Hopefully it is fully operational, E-Bay's Buyer Protection process sounds quite bureaucratic. If there are any issues I'll report them to you, as I estimate he may have at least one more for sale sooner or later.

I had contacted the seller with the first unit he had for sale. He stated he had 3 and that he got them from a movie studio. Used as props or were going to be used as props.

He seemed like a pretty decent guy with our few emails.
