[WTB] KMAC + donation pledge
« on: Mon, 13 August 2012, 23:39:33 »
This is not a joke.

Do you own a KMAC? Do you want to help someone obtain the keyboard of their dreams? Do you want to support your favorite keyboard enthusiast forum?

I want to buy a KMAC from someone who was fortunate enough to purchase one. I am looking for a Titanium Winkeyless version. Not really interested in silver or winkey versions. I will pay fair market value for the KMAC. KMAC can be assembled or unassembled, and priced accordingly. Switch type and LED colors do not matter.

I also have a few things that may be of interest for a trade:
A. Like new in box HHKB Pro JP with blue printed Topre JIS keyset.
B. New CCnG keyset with 10-keypad and Tsangan kit add-ons.
C. Other keyboard related items

Reasons why you should sell/trade me your KMAC:
1. I'm a nice guy. Seriously, ask around if you don't know me.
2. I will only use the KMAC for good, never evil.
3. I will remember you in my will.
4. Generations of my progeny will sing songs of praise about you.
5. (Most important) I will donate an amount equal to the purchase price/trade value of the KMAC to Geekhack.

Edit: If the seller is primarily a member of another forum (Deskthority, KBDMania, OTD), I would be willing to split the donation amount at their request.

Update: I am purchasing a KMAC from jrockroll. Thanks everyone for your support! Donation to Geekhack pending.

I second this, from the first couple days I have been here jdcarpe has been helping me out. I had a bunch of questions and he was more than happy to help me out, even during the time when GH was down. Please help this man out if you can!

Do the OP a favor, sell him your KMAC.  Or did you sell it behind the scenes for $500+ already?

I do recall a kmac being sold on here a couple days ago, but it disappeared when I tried finding that post to link here....

round 2 buy?

You mean KMAC 2?

The KMAC sold out in 15-20 minutes.  The KMAC Mini did not sell as fast though because not many of the members like that form factor.

Good Luck :)

Last KMAC GB was open for an hour or so. IMO your chance of getting one from group buy is much higher than getting one from classified. Also, I hear that KMAC2 would have new features. No need to pay premium if you are willing to wait.

Here is what baffles me about this kind of stuff. People want to buy it, why isn't someone making more of them ASAP?

If that were the case then why make so much profit on some of these things? Maybe on some of the aluminum cases there isn't much profit, but on some of the other stuff people make there has to be pretty considerable profit.

There seems to be so much demand because the base price is relatively low and priced without margin. Moreover, the GB prices rarely include time spent on developing hardware and software.

If aluminum case and PCBs are made for profit I think they are going to be priced at least 30% more than the GB price. At that price range I would think there isn't going to be amount of demand we see. Even if there are large enough demand at those price range, I would think no for-profit firm would undertake such business opportunity if there is third party that would supply the same good for much less.
