Chicony 5181 on ebay

I did not post this item here because I felt sure that some GHer would be bidding and I did not want to drive the price up.

I don't need it, but somebody should contact this seller and make him a decent offer on this board.

Every Chicony 5181 I have seen has had the wonderful Monterey blue switches.

not sure what the seller is doing saying 5311/5181 being the same?

the back of the board he is selling indicates it is a 5311, which would be a rubber dome vs a 5181 which you are so right is a monterey blue alps and very nice.

this seller has an NEC with some kind of blue alps equivalent with lasered caps

I have not bought from ncbound, but I think he is considered to be an honest and knowledgeable seller.

He sells lots of good stuff, and seems to put a strong but fair Buy-It-Now price on all his items.

It (my OP) was up on ebay for a week starting at $14 and got no bids.

I would contact the seller and offer him $25-30 shipped if I wanted it.

I contacted the seller a week or more ago asking to confirm the switch color but haven't heard back.  The one I ended up buying was a bit more, but had "monterey blue" prominently in the description.

I would bet money that, even though it did not sell at $13.99 last time, it will go higher this time.

I would look at $20-30 + shipping as a fair price for a good used one, and $50-60 NIB.

But maybe it will go less, ebay is wildly unpredictable.

ur thinking sounds about right to me. that is what i paid for mine new-- right on the money!

even though the one on ebay has something scribbled on the back the sticker looks good and the cord looks pretty fresh. wouldn't you think lighly used?

just to be clear in the picture i put up on mine- i added the doubleshots as they do not come standard on a 5181 to my knowledge.

one "down side" is the 1x back space! cheap rascals.............

Remember fwiw that I asked this seller to verify the switch color, and he/she didn't respond.  My understanding is that not all 5181s are monterey.

I bought a Chicony keyboard from eBay once.  It was model number KB-5161 and it had white ALPS switches iirc.  Board was really beat up though, many of the switches didn't work.  I ended up giving it to Microsoft Windows as a donor board.

on the other hand i never have great success with them popping a key either

you might be right though because i checked mine and while the fcc id number, model number is exactly the same-- mine was made in thailand and the one being offered on ebay was made in taiwan, so we need somebody who has 1 made from taiwan to check.

i would not bid on until sure, so good post hash......
