My MX-11800 just died...
« on: Sat, 13 October 2012, 20:09:43 »
I'm sorry and I apologize if this is in the wrong thread but, I'm just depressed and literally broken. My MX-11800 just died on me. I was playing "FTL: Faster than Light" and after a forced restart I saw the keyboard started to input characters like crazy, "asdafasflsaslala\\" and such. The keys are not stuck and no accidents regarding liquids or hits happened. Have you seen any cases like this on a MX-11800? It's not the computer because I'm typing with another keyboard right now (back to my BTC 5100C), and I may be crazy, but I think the MX-11800 smells funny (funny as in "something burned", not cat pee or coffee or things like that). I still have to open the keyboard and inspect it, but, this has been a terrible saturday so far.  :'(

Could be chatter. Can be caused by switch going bad. Though burned smell is not good, could be a deeper problem like the controller going. If you want to try and repair replace switch acting up, I have lots of browns, or if you just want a somewhat similar board I have some like new G80-8113LUAUS available.

Thanks for your reply. I have to say, I don't think it's chatter. I just plugged the keyboard again (it rested in a corner for a few hours), and it has been working perfectly for the last four hours. My prime suspect would be the controller, but it will have to wait until monday to check the insides (or set itself on fire before that). I know that "browns" are common and not that great in some cases, but this MX-11800 is my first mechanical keyboard, and I would hate to retire it so quickly.

I have seen that G80-8113LUAUS you're talking about. Nice, really nice, too bad I'm probably a gazillion miles away from you. If I have to import a keyboard (and fight hordes of vicious and greedy customs officers in the process), it will be a model M.
