Key caps with History
« on: Fri, 30 November 2012, 00:36:43 »
The Story:
So visiting an office of my company I stumble across a key cap attached to someone's generic dell keyboard with mounting tape. The key cap says "Find Evidence" on it (pictured below) and I immediately knew i wanted it. I'm in the electronic discovery industry, also called litigation support, so this is a kind of niche item i love. he allowed me to keep it (true story).

Up until i took it i thought it was a novelty item and didn't actually think it was a MX key cap however when i peeled off all of the nasty mounting tape the familiar Cherry MX stem was there. Weeeee!  :p so immediately put it on my RACE I started traveling with.

The key cap has a history as i asked around, It has been floating around my office from person to person for a couple years now with the original owner no longer with us and he got it from another person at another company. When i googled it i found that a UK software company Disk Labs (clearly labeled on the key cap lol) gave a couple hundred of these away at trade shows and forums between 2008 and 2011.  As the company is small and is in the UK it doesn't seem to have much customers in the US so either they were here in the states at a trade show years back or maybe the original owner snagged it on a forum or another method i just don't know.  I further found It came with the mounting tape over the cherry stem so it wasn't given away as a cherry mx key cap. Crazy. In the end its a bright red cheaply constructed spherical mx key cap that i'm going to keep.

So after telling my $&#% crappy story, does anybody else have any key caps that have a lengthy history to them? maybe a mysterious tale of how you ventured into a dungeon like Indiana Jones to find it? LOL

I am using a set of black on white/beige caps from some vintage cherry keyboards (so are many other members who got them from the deskthority market palce) I bet there are some lengthy histories behind each set of those cherry caps.
