First Ducky Shine

So I got my first ducky shine back in Aug. from Tiger Imports. I got a cherry black shine with White LED's.

Fast forward till now. I just started feeling a catch when pressing the "A" key. So I promptly removed the "A" key to investigate, low and behold I find this slight defect. It is a very small crack/chip that I circled in red (comparison shot of the "X" key to see the difference)



I would say with any other key besides "ASDW" I would not have noticed. But since I am playing some Dishonored I notice a lot. I did not feel it till today so I suspect it happened pretty recently.

I guess my question here is, Has anyone seen something like this before with a Ducky? Would Tiger Imports be able to replace this (I don't have the original box anymore)? What about Ducky? What are my best options?

Sorry that your first post is to seek help with a problem.

I have two Ducky Shines (both version 1).  I must admit I have not examined each switch that closely.  On one of mine some of teh MX blue switches do not click all the time, otherwise everything's good.

Have you swapped keycaps out a lot?  Is it possilble that you might accidentally have caused this?

I only ask because thousands of switches pass around here all the time, and I haven't heard of this particular problem before.

However it is possible that this is one bad switch.

I have not idea how Tiger Imports would handle a warranty return, however someone a while back said they had problems contacting Ducky in Taiwan to return a keyboard.

It looks like a bit of plastic is missing.  If it fell into the switch you would almost certainly need to disassemble the switch to remove it, which means desoldering the switch as it is plate-mounted.  In that case you might as well just solder a new switch in its place.

This is the first time I have taken the caps off so I have no idea how I would of caused this with normal use. I examined it pretty well and it looks like the part is cracked/sheered inward but still attached, if that makes sense. I may be able to crack it off all the way and it could work, but I spent a lot on this keyboard and would rather have it work as intended haha. 

Like I said, I never would of felt it if it was another key besides ASWD. I can get a video up in a few min showing the difference in clicks.

This definitely would fall under manufacturing defect, and nobody specific is to blame. Just a crack in the housing that expanded over time and resulted in that. I've seen it before. There's no way to detect or avoid it without getting ridiculous about QC, and it's pretty infrequent. It's highly unlikely anything you did caused it to occur more rapidly or specifically.

Probably the piece that broke off is inside the switch. That definitely should be covered under warranty provided you're within the warranty period since it's a manufacturing defect in the switch housing that nobody could have caught.

I will contact tiger and ducky and see what happens. I hope I can get it worked out because I have been very happy with this keyboard

Yup seems to be very uncommon. Looks like a piece of plastic fell in and made ot a clicky switch.

I only asked as I can imagine using a screwdriver or something to lever a stubborn keycap off could cause damage not dissimilar to this, but it is unlikely.

Been in contact with Tigerimports and I have to ship the keyboard to California to the Ducky Shine certified repair man. I have to cover shipping which is going to be north of $20. Still trying to work out not having to pay to get this fixed. Kinda ridiculous. To there credit Tigerimports agrees and is trying to help me out, but I am not holding my breath.
