After reading the past couple days, and being directed here. I am debating about which keyboard to pickup. My price range pretty much relegates me to getting a CM quick fire, or an HPE 87 off Ebay. I am just not sure which to get and what switches. I understand the concepts of each switch, but I am still unsure what is for me. I game and type equally on my keyboard when I use it. As such, I was thinking maybe MX Brown. Is this a good choice for a medium switch to start off with? In terms of keyboards, I would lean towards buying which ever keyboard is built the most like a tank, and allows me to grab some custom keycaps

Any suggestions and help would be awesome. Hopefully this is the start of an addicting mini hobby.

I personally own a CM Quickfire Rapid, and I enjoy it very much. Its a solid tenkeyless board and now that they removed the branding, its a really great looking board especially for modding with new key caps, spray painting, etc. Hope it helps! Cheers.

Nice album for reference, although, not mine. http://imgur.com/a/dOouy

Another vote for QFR.

Honestly, I don't think that people follow the stereotypes: reds for gaming, blues for typing, browns for mixed.
Many people game on blues. Many people type on reds. It's more personal preference.

The question is:
  • Do you want it to click?
  • Do you want it to be tactile? (small bump)

Browns is a good beginners switch. I have two of keyboard with browns and I like them fine. I've recently ordered one with reds since I am not sure I really need the tactility. It might just be a waste.

Blues, however, can get away in the way of gaming because they are harder to double tap. (Release point is above activation point).

I saw this picture before and it actually made me interested in the board. I thought they first sold as unbranded and are now selling branded. I would instantly buy one if I knew where to get it underbranded. Are all the new ones this way, should I look at Newegg?

They USED to come branded but they switched and they NOW come unbranded. All of the new ones are this way to my knowledge, i got mine on Amazon a month or two ago and it was unbranded. I have the MX blue switches. Personally i stick to blues/browns because i enjoy the feel and somehow i type faster with them. If the noise is a problem though, id stay away from blue/brown.

Edit: another nice pic of the QFR i had lying around http://imgur.com/ScuCI

thanks for the help. only place I can order one with brown switches in Canada is Newegg.ca. Looking at feedback the people who got theirs in December are receiving branded versions.

If I could say one thing to the merchants who sell QFRs it would be:

Change the picture on your web page to something current, or I won't buy the damn thing!
