Buckling Springs switches compatible with Cherry MX keycaps?
« on: Thu, 31 January 2013, 10:03:09 »
Hello!

I finally want to have a keyboard with a native neo2 layout ( http://neo-layout.org/ ). For that reason, I want to print custom keycaps for the neo layout at http://www.wasdkeyboards.com
They say they use Cherry MX compatible keycaps, so I was wondering where I can put these keycaps on now. One of my favourite keyboards would be one of the unicomp ones with buckling spring switches (and integrated mouse even, e.g. http://pckeyboard.com/page/EnduraPro/UB404G6 but of course I have no idea whether my keycaps would fit. Does any one know whether Cherry MX keycaps are compatible with Buckling Srpings switches?

My other plan would be to get a Cherry G80-3000LSCDE-2  and put the key caps on that one.

I am also happy about other suggestions on how I could come to my native neo2 mechanical keyboard.
I've been reading up a lot on the technologies and figured a buckling spring might be the best, but a Cherry MX Clear or Brown switch might also be okay.

I fancy a NKRO but maybe you guys will tell me I don't need that and I will believe you. But I certainly will want a PS/2 :)

Cherry and IBM keys are totally different.

People have cut and epoxied pieces to put together "Frankenstein" keys but they are almost always horrible.

The buckling spring barrel requires a large opening, because that is the chamber in which the spring has to buckle.
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."
