Where to buy a KB with 1800 layout?
« on: Sat, 16 September 2017, 10:41:30 »
Hey!

i need a new kb... my cm storm rapid-i makes me sick...only 6 keys have functioning backlit after 18mon.
I want a 1800 layout kb as my new daily driver but it seems to be kinda difficult to get my hands on something like an fc980m which is the only "mass produced" board with that layout i could find. candykeys or mechanicalkeyboards does have them occasionally on stock but i want a variant with mx silent reds which seems to be out of stock everywhere.

so my question:

is there a possibility to get an 1800 layout board with silent reds (and maybe backlight) other than an expensive 500€+ custom board?
if not... where exactly could i get a custom one? (i know here are some guys offering soldering/building services as i am totally incapable of anything involving craftmanship)

thx for any help :D

Most G80 keyboards have PCB-mounted switches, which means you can (a) open them to swap stems/springs or otherwise modify internals without desoldering, (b) use regular QMX Clips from GMK.

Used G80-1800s with MX Black switches should be common in Germany, and you can only swap springs for lighter and add the silencing clips relatively cheaply.

yeah i already got 2 packs of qmx clips for testing purposes... but the G80-1800 is a bit too bulky in my opinion...
