This is my next purchase goal. What is the best way to go about purchasing one?

Buy Clear switches, and find some cheap springs via Sherryton or via a member in the classifieds for Brown/Blue/Red springs depending on the flavor of Ergo Clears you'd like. Your choices are... 55, 60, 62, 65, and any higher is basically a stock Clear switch. Tada!

Ergo-clear isn't something that you can just buy. You'd have to mod one yourself and smallfry pretty much summarized what you have to do. In fact, it's pretty hard to even find a board with normal clear switches to begin with.

Okay I understand. Who makes a good clear board out there?

Keycool 84 comes with MX clears and their 87 TKL might too. Why do you want to buy a keyboard instead of clear switches/stems?

Cherry made some POS keyboards for retail, Keycool and Leopold also made clear boards. If you're looking for bulk switches, I'd look for a Cherry board, though I don't have model numbers in front of me.

g80-8113 would have the most. about 122 switches per board, but gotta double check about purchasing those as they come in browns too.

Keycool is pretty decent quality. They are essentially Leopold clones. If you're asking this to try out a board with clear switches, you will most likely not want to keep it in stock configuration. Clear switches have springs that are even stiffer than black switches. This is why ergo-clear is a popular mod.

I use to mod a bunch of custom keyboards, including poker. I think Beast was selling some custom ones, but he already sold his. Look around in the classifieds.

Thanks for the info.

Let me give you a peak into my thought process so maybe you can understand my goals.

I currently have the perfect red switch board, which is my Ducky Shine 2. If you haven't seen me posting my immense newly found admiration for the company, I have become a big fan of Ducky and my first goal coming here was to obtain my perfect red switch board. I can't imagine playing with any other switch and so glad I found my sweet spot. However, I am a keyboard fan and now--enthusiast. I want something with tactile feedback and although Blues will have a special place in my heart, I always wanted to try something like a brown but with more feedback. I do like the sound of a blue, but like the tactile better to type with and play other games that my benefit from it. So when I hear Clears (with different springs) can deliver lovely feedback without the tedious 'click', it got me intrigued.

With this said, for my next purchase I want something with this objective in mind. This leaves me with ergo clears, but I also feel Topre is an option as well. And if I am going to get a Topre it has to be a HHKB since I love the form factor and always wanted to get comfortable moving around the board as quickly as a HH layout would allow.

So I guess my next question would be, how does ergo clears (if I mod out the board) fair against a Topre? Am I better off saving the mod time and just putting the doe towards a HHKB? And if that's the case, is the type-s truly worth the extra money? I have seen others claim there is an easy at home way to convert a pro-2 to a type-s.

Thanks again guys. The help I have gotten here is invaluable.

There are no MX switches, no matter what mods you do to them, that will imitate topre switches. It sound like you'll like ergo clears, but it's not even close to what topres feel like.

I understand/understood that. But what I am getting at is that I am looking for something with tactile feedback. You're right, it does sem like I would like ergo clears, at least from what I have been reading. But so you think I will like Topre? Or is it one of those things impossible to know until I try them?
