This will work right? USB cable advice required...
« on: Sun, 14 July 2013, 10:18:28 »
I've got 3 nice old coiled cables with AT connectors that I've pulled off old alps boards, if I cut off the AT connector and wire up a USB connector it should work right? The keyboard end has a 4 pin connector with a separate ground, I figure so long as I get the wiring right on both ends I shouldn't have any problems but I'm by no means an electrician so I'd love someone to chime in.

The main motivation for using these cables is that they've cleaned up really nicely and I love the vintage coiled design, also pretty handy already having a 4 pin connector as I that will make wiring my custom boards a lot easier. Will try and get some photos up tomorrow, using my phone and it sucks taking photos at night.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

might work... might not...  USB relies upon
a twisted arrangement of the comms pair,
and specific capacitance and inductance
properties to ensure a reliable connection.

If it works, you'll be more susceptible to
noise... maybe less reliable... maybe
awesome!

Thanks for the info, I was worried about the twisted pair! Will have a crack at soldering some connectors on tonight and let everyone know how it goes :)
