WTB: cherry red
« on: Mon, 18 February 2013, 13:44:13 »
Hey, all.   ;D

I'm looking for a "cheap" cherry red switch mechanical keyboard with a 105 key layout (big enter, QWERTZ preferably). Don't care much about the build quality...

What are the candidates?

Define what is 'cheap' 50EUR, 100EUR... it will be easier to help you.

Well i own a filco and that's somewhat "pricey". So lets say around (or less) than 100€. And  it needs to be red, since the blues are too lound  fo my coworkers :)

Neither is full-size ISO.

I guess some Ducky keyboards come in ISO.

Ducky could be a good choice if you can find a good price from an EU seller, though I can't remember if they offer DE layout or not yet, maybe nordic is good enough as I know that is available.
I don't usually reccomend, but maybe a Zowie Celeritas? They come in ISO DE with reds for about 80-90EUR it seems.

I would go with the Zowie over that, while iOne is not quite as terrible as they used to be they still have sub par build quality compared to other options. Also, you could always go down the simple mod path and swap out the springs on a G80-3000LPCDE to make ghetto reds. You can often find those G80 for 50EUR or less.

Also isn't Zowie Celeritas made by Costar?  I think I'd go with that too.

Though I do admit 105 ISO MX Red boards are not super common.

lol, sorry, I just assumed the OP wanted TKL size, and ANSI layout.  heh, I should do a better job paying attention to what people actually want.  :-[

So anyway, here is a solution:  http://www.keyboardco.com/keyboard_details.asp?PRODUCT=1039

Filco quality, Cherry MX red switches, full-size, and German ISO layout. Preis = £100.00.  So that's right at the top limit of the OP's budget.

I'd get the QF with the replacement cover in black and PBT keys. I wouldn't be able to stand all that branding.

Roswell been pretty popular 'round here also.

Got the QPAD. I must say i'm really impressed with quality/price value. This are my first reds, i LOVE em

I'm planing on buying another red. This time probably filco, since it's hard to find reds on "normal" boards. Usually they come with LEDs which i really don't like/need/use/want.

Anyone interested in blue-mx filco (http://www.keyboardco.com/keyboard_details.asp?PRODUCT=768)?
