Matias Mini Tactile
« on: Fri, 29 March 2013, 14:50:02 »
I got it today from Tigers Inc. and i have to say...I really love it! I am not happy with the shipping delay from Matias but it is now water under the bridge. I have what i wanted and i am typing on it now. The compact size is wonderful. I also love how the USB cable is flush against the keyboard so it can sit right on top of my MacBook 15 inch and replace my laptop keyboard. I do wish the top part was trimmed down a bit but all in all i love it. What i love as much as the compact size is the fact that there is NO pinging sound after i hit a key. This keyboard is so much better than the previous models. Well done Matias. Just next time make sure you do a better job notifying your customers when a keyboard is delayed.  A special thank you to the guys at mechanicalkeyboards.com (Tigers Import)! :D

That's great!

Maybe someday I'll also get a Tactile Pro or similar clicky keyboard for the fun of it. As for now, I just got my first "we're late" email from Barbara @ matias while waiting for my PC Quiet Pro.

I have been tempted to cancel my order and get a $59 Thinkpad USB keyboard instead. The only other things that could lure me away at this point would be if WASD 2.0 started shipping, or if Topre had a big price drop.

lol congrats !!!  I've been following your post and noticed that you've been waiting forever, good thing you finally got it.

I had to recently mod the switch for my g/f's Tactile Pro to the quiet ALPS.  She find the clicky ALPS too heavy somehow, then she tried my quiet pro and she loved it.  So we ordered switches from Matias and mod it ourself.

And she now has a white case Mac Quiet Pro  :D

(Trust me white case and looking pretty is a huge deal for her, so getting the silver Mac Quiet Pro wasn't an option)

I am not good at all at modifying a keyboard. I am learning though. I had the quiet alps and i didn't like them. They felt too mushy and a lot like a membrane keyboard to me.

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

For those with new Matias boards: do they have skewed looking keys when viewed from the side? (Like the Laptop Pro I had for a while).

I just took a look now and almost all the keys lined up, but I'll admit probably 2-3 keys does look a tiny bit off but it's not really noticeable during general use.

I own a full size Quiet Pro  :)
