ATT Uverse

Hi, i just "had to" switch to Uverse and now i got this big modem in the size of a shoebox. From what i can see, it seems to have wireless too.
Sad, since i just recently bought my buffalo router.
My question is this. Can i still use my router or do i have to use the ATT modem/router?
btw. i just got the internet since i don't care about the rest that they offered.

Yhea you will just have to bridge your router to the modem/router combo

Most modem/wireless routers are garbage, from what I've seen, and you're better off using your Buffalo router.

There's always a choice. I have to choose between Comcast and Uverse in my area. I choose neither.

Bridge in this context means 'cable'.

Stick an Ethernet cable into one of the ports on the ATT box and the other end into the uplink port on your Buffalo and you should be good to go. I have my Netgear plugged into my UVerse box just like that and it is fine.

I just got laid off from Uverse tier 2. Sorry to hear you got stuck with it.

There's no true bridge/passthrough mode in the gateways they provide with Uverse, but you can kludge it. Adventures have been documented online, just a google away. http://www.mwburden.com/misc/bridgemode.html seems to have a simple solution but I've never had a chance to try these things myself.

The people at forums.att.com are super helpful if you have any issues.

If i would do that i would perhaps break my datalimit. But yes, i think that is an option too.

Actually it worked well. Just really plug in the router in the modem and it worked. I just had so many worries but it was really that simple.

I think next time i might consider cable but for now i am ok with that. All i need is just a reasonable internet connection so i can stream my movies.
