I really, really miss square screens.

Whose idea was it to go to wide stubby horizontal screens, anyway? Is it because that is what movie theater screens look like?

My 2 monitor setup has a square screen and a horizontal one, and for almost any kind of document I am moving vertically much more often.

it hurts my neck

I have a Dell 24" - 1920 x 1200 - IPS that I can set vertically.  Yours looks larger.  What size is it?

Dell UltraSharp U2711 27" 2560x1440

It's my work monitor.  I think about stealing it everyday.

I couldn't get used to it so I went with a hybrid option.

I can get Windows 8 to go into portrait mode, but how do you get the Dell monitor to do so for bootup (e.g. BIOS setup).

Impossible with current BIOSes.

Picture rotation is typically performed by GPU on request from software and I'm yet to see a BIOS which provides such option. I'm also not aware of any monitor which can be switched between declaring X×Y or Y×X resolution, although this is theoretically possible.

Thanks...  At least now I don't have to spend time searching.  And, I have a dual display setup, and the other monitor is a 24' Asus - 1920 x 1080, that is in landscape mode.

And back on topic, I use two old 1600×1200 IPS panels side-by-side and they give me more vertical and horizontal space than all these pathetic "Full HD" displays :)

I think I'll be looking for some nice 30"-er now because I don't want to "downgrade" in pixel count :)
