Is typing on a full MX Grey (tactile) keyboard feasible?
« on: Wed, 19 March 2014, 22:03:59 »
I got a Poker 2 with the intention of carrying it around with me from server room to server room, as the ones already in there are rubbish. It came with MX Blues (server rooms are loud so I didn't care about the noise) but I find them way too light for me.

Background out of the way, I'm embarking on a project to modify that Poker 2 somewhat, including changing out the switches. I've given up trying to find a cheap, in stock, source of MX Clears, but I can get tactile MX Greys.

Considering I am a very heavy typist, are the greys going to be okay to type on? I've hear people say they are VERY heavy, but when only looking at the specs they have the same actuation force as greens (which I have tried in a store and liked,) though I know the numbers don't tell the full story.

mk. com has clears for 50cents a switch

its all personal preference, if you're strong enough to use grays, then use them

Gray mx switches are heavy however I swapped them into one of my full size boards and at first I thought it was awful but after using it a little while they aren't that bad, I kind of like it.

And it is nice going back and forth between them and stock clears, which I love.

Also I find the grays to have a unique springy sound that its nice.

Here is what pacifist is referring to since not every knows mk.com is an abbreviation

I can't believe I got the difference between plate mounted and pcb mounted switches backwards... mk was where I was planning on getting the Greys from and had disregarded their Clears because they weren't plate mounted (lol.)

Thanks for the quick responses, both of you.
