Thinkpad T61p

Work issued me a new laptop today, thought I'd share some pics. Anyone need some extra (brand spanking never touched by human hands new) trackpoint pads?
Thinkpad T61p
Odd thing, the Thinkpad line is now devoid of IBM branding. Mine says "Thinkpad T Series", it says "T61p", but instead of "IBM" anywhere, they now say "lenovo" only.
To quote Norman Thayer (Henry Fonda) in On Golden Pond, "End of the line for a damn fine name!" Hopefully (it doesn't seem to have happened yet) lenovo will be able provide the same quality ongoing.

I have some experience on the Lenovo-branded T-series thinkpads and they seem OK. After all, they had been manufacturing them for quite some time before the name switch, though, we had some problems with the earliest totally IBM-free ThinkCentres and ThinkPads we got at work. Or maybe we just got a bad batch.

IIRC, machines built in 2007 got the IBM logo standard if you made a small order, and the ThinkPad logo standard if you made a large order, but on large orders you could request the IBM logo. Basically, the LCD cover and palmrest have different part numbers, but that's the only difference.
Machines built in 2008 all have the ThinkPad logo.

I also have a T61 (albeit the 14.1" model, not the 15.4" P model), I got it very recently so it has Lenovo branding. I don't know what the old IBM models were like, but this is definitely the best laptop Ive ever used, and I've used plenty...

This is my 4th straight Thinkpad. My work leases them for 2 years and turns them back in, so we are on a very nice rotation for new laptops. I have been impressed with them. My last one had some issues, but replacing the system board and hard drive seemed to fix that. So far the T61p is the best one yet.

I love thinkpads. Very compatible with linux, solid construction, doesn't scream "steal me!" like a vaio or powerbook, and decent keyboard. I've bought both pre and post lenovo TP's (600E, X20, T40, X60) and have noticed no drop in quality.
