IBM Model F XT on ebay - top shelf, top dollar

The dates on the box... This is likely a 'NIB' IBM/Lexmark factory refurbished model F...

If it was a new-in-box AT, I think that somebody would pay that $300 in a heartbeat, and consider it a bargain. Didn't one go for $500-600 a year or 2 ago? I know that was a fluke, but I seem to remember it happening.

I'm a bit disturbed by the 1993 manufacturing date and the seller comment "This is a newer iteration of the Model F". Imagine if this thing is a later cost-cutting cheapo plastic rubber dome with a feel like the PCjr. (...and imagine the face on the buyer as he opens the package)

I think it's reasonable to pay $300 for a verified NIB AT (not one that somebody opened, then disassembled and photographed, then played with for years before putting back in the box and reselling). I'd also pay around $100-$150 for a verified NIB XT - but it would have to be one made before 1984.

1501100 is the proper model F PC/XT keyboard part number. It's hard to tell the date of manufacture on these, but it's likely made around 1981-1984 and then refurbished much later (in 1992 or 1993 probably). As far as I can tell, there's no way to tell without opening it up and checking the plastic internal and the IC dates to determine (most model F XT's don't have a label.  That said, I wouldn't pay that much for a keyboard with that layout, regardless of condition.

There is no newer iteration of the model F, so I don't know what the seller means by that. There is the chance that they took a mystery keyboard (like that frankenstein industrial F XT that showed up on ebay a while ago) that was NIB and combined it with the box for a real F XT. It's not an industrial model. You can see that it is the normal IBM beige color through the open areas in the styrofoam. It might still be something strange, but I kind of doubt it.

I know, I saw the IBM beige, but if "third party assemblies: exist in industrial XT cases ( I have seen pictures of at least two) then they probably also exist for beige ones. Point is: it's very likely a capacitive buckling spring KB, but it's not certain.

Yeah, the different dates on the box do seem strange ..
But the sealing on the styrofoam-box looks right .
If it is what it claims to be, the price isn't that outrageous, it's a lot rarer than a NIB SpaceSaver !

I wouldn't mind one in my collection, but with postage, customs-fees and 25% Danish sales-tax on top the price suddenly does get outrageous ):

I don't think that it is more rare than an equivalent space saver.

These things turn up regularly, and considering supply-and-demand, the demand will always be low because it is such an uncomfortable and inappropriate layout. IBM knew it, too, they did not make these for long before they totally changed the design - twice.

In that case, you haven't been paying attention to guy selling them NIB on eBay for the last 2 years or more !
He sells one of these 'rare' keyboards for about 300$ and magically, he has one more.. and one more.... and one more ......
You don't even see that many NIB Model M's on eBay !!!

Have you ever tried this layout? I tend to use the keyboards I own and collect, hence the layout alone is a deal breaker for me, NIB or otherwise.
